Start the clock ... order just placed for 2015 3500HD

Decided that our current 2013 3500 4x4 SRW gasser regular cab was just not comfortable enough for long drives; that, and the interior changes for 2015, made this an easy decision.

 

2015 3500 4x4 SRW LTZ gasser

- Z71

- Heated & cooled seats

- with Navigation

- Driver Alert

- Cargo convenience

- 730 amp battery w/220 amp alternator

- trailer wiring

 

Now the wait ...

thx brandon - the truck is used primarily for our slide in camper, around 2500# load, & a couple times a year, pull 10-12k. No need for the additional torque & am light enough not to need a dually.

 

Our trips are throughout the western US - my 2013 3500 gasser (signature picture) has yet to break a sweat up or down grades - we seldom go lower than 4th or above 4000 rpm getting over the sierras (Reno-SFran). I drive 70% highway & 30% off road; some of the off road is 4x4; the 4:10 is a great match for this type of driving -j ust right.

 

It'd take me 10-years in mpg differences to "pay" for the added $10k for diesel. Long term maintenance costs are typically a bit higher for diesel, but that's not a deciding factor for me - GM quality over a truck's lifetime, gas or diesel, is as good as it get - outstanding.

Thanks for all the info , I've been looking into diesel myself but keep talking myself out of it. Most of the points you made are why I've talked myself out of it. Thanks for the info to.

I am not super familiar with the newest platforms. (I'm still driving a gmt-800) but will your 3500 have a 6 liter? I have heard rumors that some people have found the massive 8.1 in a few new trucks. And congrats on the new rig!

How lonng is the whole process take? By the end of this month I will be ordering me one hopefully. I have yet to talk to sales dept anywhere bc I'm not sure what state I want to purchase. Also waiting few more paychecks for my hefty DP

thx servantsales - my order is for 6.0 gas - I've not heard anything about an 8.1; but probably would pass on such a monster - no need for such.

 

tealah - no idea of the time other than a couple fleet websites that show 11-13 weeks. My best guess is 8 weeks.

GMT900 and K2 platform Heavy Duty trucks have only ever offered the 6.0 Gas or 6.6 Diesel. Expect the 6.0 to drink gas but it is a proven reliable workhorse. I have driven both and you can't beat the monster amount of torque out of the diesel. But it is an expensive option. Diesel trucks hold their resale much better than gas and you will get back the premium you paid on the diesel during resale.

 

Let us know your thoughts on drivability of the 2015 vs your 2013. Same powertrain as your 2013 but of course new sheet metal, interior and power train programming.

 

What color interior and exterior?

Agree with you on resale value. I'm getting 11.5-12 mpg hauling 2500# of truck camper throughout the rocky mtns (5,000 - 10,000+ ft); 70% highway 30% forest roads (10% 4x4). The 4:10 rear works really well for this kind of driving.

 

White w/coca - I also have a dislike for chrome & tags & will pretty much get the new LTZ Z71 looking like a basic work truck (on the outside anyway) by the time it hits the trail.

update: truck shipped & invoiced on 8/8 ... dealer estimates delivery 8/22 ... according to Carly, anticipation is keepin' me waitin'
