New 2014 GMC Sierra Owner in SouthEast Michigan

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

Just picked up my first truck, a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT All-Terrain CCRB 4x4 in Switchblade Silver Metallic. It's got the 5.3L and 3.42 gears.

I bought it used, certified pre-owned with 17k miles on it and it's in great condition. It's covered under the rest of the factory warranties(bumper to bumper and powertrain), plus an additional 12mo/12k on the bumper to bumper. There was one small issue with it that I didn't notice until I picked it up. It's supposed to have a power sliding rear window, but the previous owner must have smashed out the rear window due to something in the bed, sliding forward and hitting it, and had it replaced with a standard window. Which it turns out is better for visibility anyway.

I also noticed that the transmission or drivetrain whines at low speeds and on startup. The engine or something sounds loud almost like a ticking. The dealer says it's common for these trucks to sound that way. Anyone else have these noises?

Overall I'm very happy with the truck. It's a lot nicer than my mom's '07 Silverado. I've been averaging about 17mpg in the city(15ish in stop and go traffic), 18.5-19 combined, and 22-23 highway, these are all DIC numbers. When I hand calc'd the overall tank avg with the DIC avg, the number was within 0.2 of a gallon.

Once my rally car is finished, I'll be towing it 1-3 times per month.

Any suggestions, tips, tricks for maintenance, driving, towing or general stuff that I should know about?

welcome aboard

Post some pics of the truck and rally car. Where do you race?

Thanks!

I'll get some pictures up once I log into my computer, just been using the phone for internets lately.

The car is currently being torn down for a new engine and suspension, but I'll get some pictures up of it as well.

Welcome!

Thanks!

  • 2 weeks later...

Here's another shot of the truck at work.

Here's a couple pics of my rallycross car:

My BedRug liner was waiting for me when I got back from camping and my Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite should be waiting at home after work.

If I'm feeling up to it, I'll get the stuff installed tonight. It's supposed to rain until Thursday, so maybe it'll get installed then.

My AVS vent visors are on the way.

Still deciding whether to get the WT no-drill mud gaurds or not.

I'm also considering getting some tint on the front windows, not as dark as the back windows due to our tint laws, trying not to make it so obvious.

Loving the truck so far... I've put nearly 1500 miles on it in the 3 weeks I've owned it.
