Kinda related/unrelated. My '14 Durango V6 just got the updated 8 speed trans. Must be something with the gears and shifting and stuff, but it feels like it is faster and has more punch than the 5.3L V8 chevy. Eventually it starts to run out of power and the Silverado is still going. But just city cruising it feels good! I'm sure it will improve the performance of the 6.2L GM's

Go Army! GO ORDNANCE!!!

Im all for more gears, its getting to the point where hwy mileage will not improve much till you work with weight and drag. The improvement in towing and in town mileage will improve, and the o to 60 sprint. Which is fine by me. For the people that may not understand look at the Camaros mileage.

I usually go for the WT (LS) Chevy type trucks and usually those models are the last in the line to get the new transmission anyways. My 2008 Silverado WT (LS) was only a four speed transmission but there were other models that had the six speed transmission for that year. I don't do heavy towing and the six speed seems to be doing fine. I am wondering the cost for the updated 8 speed transmission. Any hesitation in stop and go traffic? I see some in the six speed. I am glad I am into automatic transmissions because it seems you would be always shifting with a standard (8 speed plus) especially in traffic to make it not fun anymore. It seem like the front stupid air dam to just get another mile. Anyone have any experience with the RAM truck eight speed?

If you want a first year tranny go for it. I'd rather have a pretty proven six speed. I'd wait atleast a year. My .02

This. I was waiting to order a 2015, but when the rumors started, I got a 2014 instead.

So GM confirm what we have known for months. Now lets see if the other half of the rumor comes true for 2015.5 MY trucks.

What's the other half of the rumors? People said you were full of it, but I want to believe.

I have confirmed I will be able to drive the new Hydra-Matic 8L90 transmission (but in a non-pickup application) at the end of August. I will have driving impressions for anyone interested.

When you say 2015, does that mean this series of trucks which you all class as 2015 July 2014 - 2015 or do they mean 2015 as in jan 2015? Sorry an Aussie here trying to understand.

I would assume they have been running these 8 speeds in test trucks for a while, what sort of feedback did they get with them can we find out?

Would this be same gearbox that the other companies are using, I thought someone mentioned a while ago in a post that ford or dodge may have been running 8 speeds.

Sounds exciting though and hopefully a wise move.
