I'd like to find out what gear ratio my differential has. Heres the kicker... it came from a salvage yard and finding out what truck it came from is now impossible. My truck requires a 3.23 ratio and thanks to the one thats on it now... my RPMs are higher. How would I go about figuring out what ratio it has?

This will take 2 people. Jack up one wheel. First person turns the wheel 20 times, second person counts how many times the drive line turns. 41 and a little turns of the drive line means its a 4.11. 37 and a little means 3.73. 34 plus = 3.42. 32 plus = 3.23.

Or....jack it up and just turn the tire one time around. If the pinion turns right at 3 times, it's a 3:08, if it turns 3 1/4 times, it's a 3:23, if it turns almost 3 1/2 times, it's a 3:42, if it turns 3 3/4 times, it's a 3:73, and if it turns just over 4 times, it's a 4:10.
