DTC P0030

cmoore74

Question

The check engine light came on the other day and I'm throwing a code of P0030 which is Bank 1 Sensor 1 (driver's side upstream pre-cat) O2 heater control circuit.

I checked the fuse and that's fine.

Any other checks I should perform or shoudl I just replace the sensor?

Also seems to be a number of brands. Should I stick with AC Delco or go with Bosch or ???

Truck is a 2006 GMC Sierra with 5.3L V8 and about 119K.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Glad I read this - I would've said Bosch. Learn something new every day!

Wiring and connector looks good so I am assuming the sensor is bad.

Should I repalce just the one throwing a code or is it a good idea to replace all 4?

I read somewhere that even if the others aren't throwing a code replacing the sensors will restore some mileage. Any truth to this?

Also with 119K could the other 3 be on their way out anyhow?

Learned 2 things today! Never knew the reasoning behind not repairing the wiring on o2 sensors - thought the air reference was out the top of the sensor.

Off topic ... how do you like that Grand Marquis, Oscar? We've owned an '86 for over 11 years now - best car EVER. Has 216k on it, and still runs perfect. Just blew the original p/s line yesterday - biggest problem I've had in 5 years.

I love the grand marquis! It was my grandfathers and he passed in 2007, and it was given to my father and I. It has about 70K miles and NEVER 1 issue! It is a great car! The only complaint is the open differential with the 2.7x gears! But yes the grand marquis is really something! They will run forever if taken care of well! Did those PDF documents help?

Yeah they are really geared TALL!

I hate the AOD tranny in ours - the jump from 3rd to OD is GIGANTIC. It's a .67 if I remember right. Almost too much for the engine to handle at 45 mph .. which is the average speed we end up driving around here in MA. It will hunt like hell between 40-45 - drives me nuts. Got to drive in D most of the time, and shift to OD above 45 ... but at least the car doesn't break down very often. Wife gets 21 mpg out of it too.

Sorry to the OP - didn't mean to hijack your thread.

ck power and ground at 02 connector, if circuit is ok, 02 is bad,on some models the ecm grounds the heater with eng running, put test lite to bat. positive and ck ground with engine running, should lite or blink, ground path is good, replace or with oem
