Silverado vs. f150 vs. ecodiesel ram

Recommended Posts

Saw an interesting video the other day about the 2015 f150 ecoboost vs. Ram ecodiesel vs. 2014 silverado 5.3L towing 7000lbs on a 3 mile 6% grade.

It was a ford test so of course the ford won. But not by as much as I thought it would. The Ford beat the Ram by 45 seconds over the 3 miles. However, it only beat the Chevy by 5 seconds in the same distance. If I was on my computer I'd link the video.

Honestly I was pretty disappointed in the ecodiesel, not sure what all the hype is if it performs that poorly. An interesting test would be the Hemi vs. the 5.0 ford and the 5.3 or 6.2 Chevy.

I'm curious to see what kind of mileage they will post from that engine, it has to be significant to hype it this much.

I'd laugh it was only 1 mpg better than the older 3.5L eco

And the Chevy 6.2 shames them all. NEXT.

Exactly

I have never been more impressed with an engine like I am with the new 6.2, and this is since my beloved Pontiac Ram Air III from '69, and the more recent 8.1L big block.

And the older 6.2 was pretty good, but nothing like the new one.

The new 6.2 is hands down, IMO, the best gas engine ever built (for a truck).

IF Dodge ever puts their 6.4 SRT8 motor in a truck, then I will have to reconsider.

and the 6.6L Duramax shames the 6.2, and on and on it goes. but that's not the point Ford was trying to make. it will be interesting to see EPA tested fuel economy numbers for the 2.7L ecoboost.

Yup, the 6.2 is one hell of an engine. Probably the best gas engine ever put in a pickup. Yup, I said it.

Anyway, I find it interesting in this test they don't mention the fuel consumed during the test (because better mileage is the whole marketing strong point for this engine). If the EB had done any better than the 5.3 (or the diesel for that matter) they surely would have bragged about it so I'm guessing it didn't. Turbo gas motors need lots of fuel under boost. N/A gas engines can run much leaner under load which is why I don't think Ford's path forward with the EB's is quite all it's cracked up to be. The 2.7 will probably get better mileage than the 5.3 unloaded, but no better when it's working.

And the Dodge surely got the best mileage in the test...but it was slooooow. Turbo diesels rock, but that thing's just too tiny for a full sized truck.

I had to drive diesel duallys in the late 80s and 90s when they were slow, for work. I learned how to turn them up which helped some. Thankfully the wife would drive the performance cars for DD so I would at least have fun driving them on off weekends. Im not going to drive no fart sounding V6 or slow ass diesel I don't care if they get 50 miles per gallon. No offence to V6 drivers please don't put loud mufflers on them. Car is different wife drives a very nice and fast Geneses, but it quiet cant tell.

I saw that video. Was quite impressive. But I think a couple comments already hit it on the nose, to pull that much how much gas did the tarbo's consume to win? They certainly failed to mention it as well as they failed to show the run the Silverado won. Why not show that one to see if all 3 tests were done the same?

Personally, seeing that video made me realize I made a good choice in my purchase. I considered holding off for a Ford then I saw that truck and about threw up in my mouth. Thing looks like a polished turd.

I was talking 80s and 90s early 5.9, 6.2 7.3 they were SLOW. Lot of TQ no HP. I had them I know. I was relating that to the new Ram V6 diesel (240 HP) better but still SLOW. In a 1/2 ton Ill take V8 gas, that was the point. Try reading it again. the 3/4 ton and up Ill take diesel and I do my service truck is a ford 6.7 which is bad to the bone.

I know what you mean, I drove a worn out 7.3 F-SuperDuty for work at one time.
