RV plug dead on brand-new truck

Recommended Posts

I checked my RV plug (7pin) on my brand-new gmc Sierra 2500 HD and found it completely dead. No 12v power, no turn signals or brakes. I used a little 7 pin tester I just bought, and it works on my old truck, so the tester is fine.

Is there any way they ship them turned off? Seems unlikely that all the fuses would be bad.

Hoping to chase it down before I have to contact the dealer.

Thanks

Rob

Thanks for your reply. What do you mean? My 2500 HD comes with the trailer package, trailer brakes, tow haul mode etc.

I can feel a wire connected to the back of the connector.

Are you saying the plug isn't connected? Or turned off?

You will need to get under the truck and check the connections on the pig tail that goes to the trailer plug. I have not seen one not be seated good but there is always the first time for something like this. If you don't see it real fast, you have a new truck and if you need it right now call the dealer let him worry about getting it to work. :jester:

Its not hooked up under the hood at the fuse box. Most aren't from factory because of power drain issues. Look for a red wire taped up beside the underhood fuse box, possibly around the brake booster/steering shaft area.

Check all of your connections under the bed between the J-box, or splice-connectors, and the plug. If your actual lights work, and everything is connected properly, it should all work.
