HooWybrow 2014 GMC Sierra SLT 6.2L #ruined4x4

Hey guys, I'm going to start a build thread more for my own personal logging than anything else. Something hopefully to look back on in years to come with this truck.

I ordered this truck mid-January 2014 and took official ownership April 1st. It was the longest wait of my entire life. Gladly, it finally showed up and I've been in love with it ever since.

I should mention I'm 25 years old writing this, turning 26 Friday. I've been a GM tech for almost 8 years now, licensed for 4 of those. I love my job. When this model truck first came out I wasn't particularily fond of how they looked, and then I PDI'd one, got to drive it and genuinely fell in love. I've always had the mindset that older is better, I'd never own a newer vehicle, etc. Well, that went out the window with this truck and I am loving every minute of it.

Anyways, enough about me. Back to the truck. It is a nearly fully optioned out SLT save for NAV, cooled seats and parking aid (none of which I wanted). I chose a 6.2L (I'd be crazy not to, am I right?) and 3.73 gears. Essentially, I tried to make a modern day version of the Silverado SS. A friend of mine has one locally and I've always had a huge soft spot for them.

Holy sh/t this thread is off to a good start... Except for the black wheels! Haha

Its definitely a clean machine and the 6.2/3.73 must be incredible, I can't wait to drive someone like this in the future.

Good lookin' truck! Congrats!

Thanks!

Came in expecting another whiner complaining how their 50k truck has something wrong with it. Glad to see it was not.

Sharp truck!

Hahaha, no complaints here! Appreciate it.

Nice truck.. Should be a cool build. Have to say, this is the first thread I have seen with an actual hashtag in the title... I knew it was coming at somepoint

Haha, when I make my next few posts you where see where the ruined4x4 thing came from.... sorry?

Looking sharp thus far....

Appreciate it!

So, I'll catch up a little more. I had the suspension kit about 5 weeks before I had the truck. I drove the truck with a big shit-eating grin on my face for 3 days, then the itch struck and we started tearing into it. At first, I only lowered it 3" in the front and 5" in the rear, I wanted to feel out the 4wd setup as most companies suggest only a 2-3" drop total for the front.

Here we are, 3 days into my ownership, less than 300KM on the odometer.

I was exceptionally happy with this for about a week. At that point, I had some downtime and it was time to install the All Terrain grill and have the bumpers blasted and painted and the wheels blasted and powdercoated.

Here it is, bumpers back and installed, and All Terrain grill on. Was still waiting for the wheels to be finished at this point.

Somewhere between me lowering it the first time and the bumpers and grill going on, I switched the door handles and mirror caps with a lot vehicle that had factory painted parts. Bye bye more chrome.

Until next post, gentlemen.

Haha, have some downtime to update this at work and for some reason Photobucket won't work, sorry fellas. I'll get this caught up soon. Got the truck re-notched this weekend and the helper bags in, and my 22's showed up yesterday. I'll post pics ASAP.

Okay, here we go again. The first day I had the truck "done" the first time around.

Hours later I pulled a car trailer with it for the first time and truly fell in love with this truck, the power from the 6.2 with a loaded trailer is absolutely phenominal.

And it hasn't stopped since.

After a few weeks of feeling out the height at 3/5, being 4wd and all, I decided we were in the clear to use up the rest of the drop kit and bring this thing down more.

That involved removing the bed and notching it, I despise when people put a flip in a truck and the axle hits the frame. So here we are. After measuring, I needed a one inch notch, so I could run a bump stop basically, to keep the tire from contacting the bed tubs.

All the wiring and brake lines fit like factory still

And it followed the contour of the frame, while the notch itself stayed 90* to the axle.

4.5/7" drop in this set of pictures.

It still pulled alright like this, at this point I was piecing together a full standalone helper bag setup, so I was switching bumpstops out for a larger one so the tire didn't hit the wheel-well.
