99 Suburban died while driving

Question

H, I'm new here and to forum posting. I have a 99 Suburban that died while driving at about 35mph. Tried to restart and it turns over but wont fire. The windows and the interior heat/ac fan wont work at all but there is power to everything else. I checked all the fuses under the hood and dash and nothing blown. I'm leaning towards maybe the ignition switch and something with the security, I read its called VATS. Not sure and with limited funds beings that I am unemployed I cant just throw parts at this. New Optima gel battery 6 months ago and the alternator checked out then too. I poured gas in the TB and it tried to start and then backfired. Seemed liked it was missing maybe. I have 290,000 mi on this and I think it may be the original engine. Any ideas?

Everything power related works now. Still wont start. It acts like it is going to and then abruptly stops. Almost like the timing is off. Any ideas to trouble shoot this would be greatly appreciated.

So it turns out that the drive gears on the distributor sheared off. Dropped a new distributor in and she fired right up. Oh and a trick to getting the oil pump shaft lined up for an easy install. Take the old distributor and grind all the gears off smooth, drop it in and set tor #1 cylinder at top dead center, then when you drop the new one in it slides right into place with no issue.

Thanks for the response. After checking a few things and trying to start it a few more times, I now hear a squeak from the motor, sounds like maybe metal on metal and not good. I think she's seen her day.
