2014 GMC Sierra 3.5 - 4" Lift?

Recommended Posts

I have a good friend who recently purchased a 2014 GMC Sierra that he is looking to do a small lift on. With my friend being not so mechanically inclined he asked me to research and pick out a lift that I will be installing for him. He isn't a fan of the 6"+ lifts and the 2.25-2.5" levels are a bit to small for his tastes. He really likes the looks of a 3.5-4" lift with 33-34" tires. The second thing is, he doesn't want to modify the car to a point it can't be put back to stock, which limits options even more. Over the part few weeks I've been searching the forum and looking at all the available options along with downloading the install instructions. I've got it narrowed down to two options. First, a Rough Country 3.75" combo kit (2.25" leveling kit/strut spacers, 2" tall 1" lift rear blocks, and 1.25" body lift) and the second option being a 4" suspension lift from Skyjacker. The reason Skyjacker was choose over BDS and Zone is, they both require a lot more cutting (cutting mounts off front diff). The Skyjacker only requires about 1" to be trimmed off the diff crossmember which if saved could easily be welded back on if he ever desires to take the lift off. The Rough Country requires no modification with the leveling kit and very minimal modification with the 1.25" body. I ruled out the 3.5-4" Fabtech, Readylift, Rough Country, and Mcgaughy because of the severe angles on the tie rods and lower ball joints. I couldn't find any reviews on the Skyjacker kit or really anyone running them. I'm a bit skeptical with the Rough Country kit and it's quality (the fabricated blocks especially) though tons of people run them. Anyone have an input or an other suggest that fit his needs/wants? Thanks

It sounds like your buddy is not leaning towards the 3.5" rough country lift but I would recommend it for a small lift/level. I have this lift installed on my 2012 truck and love the look and ride of it. Yes it does have some slightly steeper angles but overall the kit is decent. Took me roughly 4 hours to install. The one thing I did was instead of installing a larger block in the rear, I did a zone offroad add a leaf which the rear sits 0.5" higher than the front. I know others hate the rough country n2.0 rear shocks but with the add a leaf the rear shocks aren't bad at all. The rough country kit can be completely taken off of the truck and returned to stock as you would like. Zone offroad came out with a 3.5" kit now too. I would either consider the 3.5" rough country PR the zone 3.5" kit.

I'm running the McGaughy 4" and I absolutely love it. I will never put another rough country product in a DD driver again. My Mcgaughy rides like stock and was very easy to install. I have installed Mcgaughy 7-9" kits in a 2014 and a 08 and I can honestly say McGaughy builds one of the nicest lifts.

I've been on the fence about a RC 2.5/3 kit but the price is so cheap it scares me haha

RC 2.5 is a level/ lift. Shouldn't have any issues with it since it doesn't move the truck that much. The 3.5 I have been told not to go with by people that have had RC lifts bigger than that size.

i have the 2.5 kit on my truck, very solid kit with no issues, except for the fact that it doesnt lift my truck enough in the front for my liking. so im thinking a 4" will be perfect.

sad that with a 4"kit on these gm trucks they sit the same as a stock ford f150. sighh

Yea our trucks do sit low compared to others. My friends new RAM is at least 3-4 inches highers in the rear :(

Thats weird. My truck is just leveled with stock tires and it is almost as tall as my buddy's F150 that is also leveled but his has 285/55/20 tires while mine has 275/55/20.

I plan to do a 4" with a 35s so I will definitely be taller than his, but still not by much

And ours may be a little lower, but hey, they look a hell of a lot better

Can I see a pic of ur truck. I have the RC 2.5, and want a bit more. 6" is way too big and too difficult to get in some places. My fleet access. Guy wants to put s fabtech 4" on mine. And I'm on the fence about it.

Thanks,

The fabtec 4" budget kit is sub par. If u look into the details. Painted metal. Not powder coated. Cheap blocks. Crap twin shocks. And toned down what they call uniballs. Compare it to the ready lift 4". Big difference in all aspects of the lift. I think I may get the RL

You have the 4" McGaughy correct? It looks great how it sits. I think I will end up with this lift on mine.

How does it ride? Does it restrict the turn radius like most kits? If you redid your lift would you do this one again? Also what size tires are those?
