Buying a 2014 All Star Z71

Recommended Posts

Greetings all.

I decided to register and post since most of the info Google came up with was burried in this forum.

Here's my issue--It's time to trade my wife's '06 Jeep Commander and I've got her talked into a '14 Silverado crew Z71 4wd. We own her Jeep, and it books for 9-12K trade-in, and retails for 15-16K.

The Chevy we want--sticker is 42K, and with current rebates/incentives online price on Chevy.com is 39K. The deal GM has going on states this price, and 0% for 72mon. I've told the dealer I want to finance 30K@0% out the door--so 9000ish is my trade equity, and I will pickup T&T outside of financing. They can't seem to make this deal work. Posts by users on here state that they picked up similar trucks in the 30's w/o trade!!! Dealer acts as though the buyer gets cash incentives OR 0%, not both. Makes no sense.... To get me "where I want to be" they suggest stretching term and upping APR.

Am I missing something??? Am I way off on my figures? Expecting too deep of a discount???

Need a sanity check here. Been working w/ two dealerships (emails, visits, and calls for 2 days) and both act like I am crazy.

I hate playing this game.

That makes sense. The 0% costs them money. Sounds pretty typical. Get your own low rate financing elsewhere and see what deal comes out better.

The link you posted was bad, cannot look at the exact specs. Not important anyways with the msrp. First thing I would do is shop your trade around a little bit. Take it to carmax, they will give a free quote on the car good whether you buy from them or not. When buying my '14, the dealer offered me $500 on my 232k mile 2000 silverado, Carmax offered $2000, Texas Direct Auto (local car store / buyer) offered $2500. It sold for $3100 on craigslist the same day I put the ad up. Lesson is, shop around on both sides of the deal.

Getting zero% is a gimmick to get people in the doors to buy cars/trucks. Where are you located. I think you can get a better deal on the truck you want. I drove and hour and a half to get my truck. Win Kelly in MD. I got about 9k off the sticker. They also gave a a decent price on my trade.

I tried to deal with local dealerships like lindsay chevrolet. ..they were a bunch of liars and crooked as hell. False advertising and management lied to my face about pricing.

Good luck with your search.

I dunno to be honest. I was in almost the exact same position as you were a couple of months ago. I trade a 4.7L Commander in for a 2WD 5.3L Z71 SLE CC. Sticker on the Sierra was right at 42K and change. They final numbers were 35K tax, tag and title and then $5000.00 down payment and another 6000.00 in trade from the Commander. They wouldn't budge on financing, it was incentives or 0% financing. We went with 72 mos financing for just slightly above the then current APR rate. We'll likely pay off the note within the next two years like we did with the wife's Sienna.

Panik- Thanks for the tid bit. Exactly the info I was looking for. So, looks like w/o down payment you were at about 29K OTD, but had go about 2-3% on the loan. That is pretty much the deal they countered with today after 2-3 days of haggling. I agree with all the posts above too, seems like 0% is a gimmick to get you in the door. Our Jeep is a 4wd Hemi Limited, and Im good w/ the $9K they offered, but was hoping to see 0% plus incentives. Website is unclear, dealer's verbiage is also not so transparent....

The salesman is supposed to email me a buyers order w/ a breakdown of costs, and financing info. The wife worked pre-approval w/ our credit union, so I will have a backup plan as well.

Thanks so much for your input all! I will update w/ new info as it hits my inbox.

I worked my deal out with the employee pricing, plus incentives which were not even aviliable with the 0% deals which is the norm with them anymore.

My deal worked out better with a 3 % intrest rate + incentives then it did with the 0%.

Find out your best rate via you personal bank, then see how much you will pay in interest. Compare the interest versus the rebates, which is more in your favor. The 0% is via GMAC and typically GM does not allow rebates + 0%. It is either one or the other.

As an example I got 1.49% via my personal bank (beat the dealers offer out of the water and my wife and I both have 775ish credit scores) so I took the rebates and private party money.

On a 14 mid to high end package you should get real close to 10k off. Do that separate then talk trade, forget the 0% if you have good credit you should be able to get under 2%. They don't do both, the trade is always the hardest part that's where they make their money. The only other option is sell it your self, most people take a little beating on the trade.

When I was looking at Silverados, I found a fully loaded LT with the Z71 package for $35k before fees.... and this was before I even walked into the dealership. You need to shop around a little more and buy your truck at the end of the month. Everyone wants that last minute sale and they will do anything for that business.

At the price you are paying you could get a SLT from Laura GMC in Illinois.

Also, from what I was told, you cannot combine the incentive with the zero percent financing. You have to pick one or the other. Oh, and to qualify for the 0 percent, your credit has to be 800 or higher with a low debt to income ratio. They're going to get the most out of you no matter what.

Also, if you plan on getting the warranty, do NOT pay over $1300 for the 100k mile coverage. They wanted 2000+ and I told them to shove it and they came back with $1250 for the full coverage. (YES, I know the warranty it's not worth it, but I paid for it for "MY" piece of mind).

Okay, another deal on the table. 0% is out, taking a $4250 rebate instead. GMAC financing for 72mon starts @ 2.99%, hoping it goes down after they pull our credit. OTD pricing is 27597. 12000 of my money is on the table ($9K offered for my truck, and $3K cash to cover T&T).

From what y'all are reporting, seems 2-3K high to me.

BTW this is a little different truck - Z71 Double Cab, 4wd, 1LT, 8" screen, 5.3L, All Star, Cloth, trailer brake controller, heated fronts, and dealer extras like a spray-on liner, etc.

Thoughts?

I have the same one but leather seats and no spray liner. Power heated seats. Spray liner is a great thing to have, but I already had a spray gun to install myself and have kit sitting here to do when I get the truck back. It is about $3-400 to get one sprayed in around here.

I got 2 percent financing but not through gm. Good luck. Hope you get a good one, but I highly recommend upgrading to leather.

The power leather seats are so worth it and they were included as part of a package that had a rebate at the time.

Let me tell you what I just paid a week ago. Sticker $43.5k. They took 3k right off to get it to invoice price. Then I got the rebates from GMC on the order of around $4k. Final price was $35.6k + tax tag license. Then I negotiated trade. I wouldn't let them know about the trade in until the price is settled. I was able to get 2.99% financing, which I would rather have than forfeiting the rebates. I am doing double payments, to get it paid off faster any how.

You are getting close to the right price. I didn't have to negotiate at all on mine though. They were doing no-haggle type deals on the trucks to get them out of there at a fair price. Salesman said they only had a few weeks until the 15's rolled in.

Thx Mill. Great to know right now. I've got a few dealers working for my business now. If they can hit 37K on it, I am in. 35-36 is a great deal. I feel they've got my trade amount where it needs to be, now let's hope they can get this deal done!
