2014 20" Wheels Plasti Dip?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Newbie here so if this in wrong place I am sorry!

I have a 2014 GMC Sierra Z-71 SLT Crew Cab Black with chrome 20" wheels and I am thinking really hard about Plasti-dipping the wheels black.

Has anyone done this? If so can you share pics and do's and don'ts.

What are the pro's and con's?

Thanks for you're help!

Welcome. Lots of people dip their wheels. Checkout dipyourcar.com and their youtube page for lots of videos. They tend to do them without taking the wheel off. Or you can take one wheel off at a time, which is probably what I would do.

YouTube is LOADED with How-To videos. Also if you want to order a set already black check ebay or search GM replica wheels. I know there are websites that sell the AT wheels in black some even have them in 22" if you wanted to go bigger.

Here's my old car with Anthracite Gray Plasti-Dip. I know it won't give you a very good idea of how the stockers will look but at least you can see what the Anthracite Plasti-Dip looks like. The Anthracite is a pretty cool color. It has a metallic flake in it that really pops in the sunlight.

Pros:

  • Cheaper option than powder coating
  • Easy to spray on and remove
  • It's kinda fun
  • Protects wheel finish

Cons:

  • Harder to keep clean

Hope this helps!

I know you asked for 20" wheels, but these are my stock 18" wheels I dipped.

Hey Ktapper, i see you went with the 275/70/18's from BFG with the stock 18's. I too have stock 18's and i plastidipped them as well. I have been researching a better tire than the stock goodyears. Did you have to put a leveling kit on your truck to avoid tire rub with that size with the stock wheels? Just trying to decide between 275/65/18 or 275/70/18. Thanks bro.

I have a 2" rough county level, but I think you might still be able to fit those tires without it, but I'm not 100%.

Thanks man, i know i can fit the 65's i was just curious if anyone had done the 75's without a level or lift. I appreciate the response. The truck i got rid of had a 6 inch lift and 35x12s and was brutal on mileage. I am trying to avoid killing the mileage on this truck as well.

That looks great! I have the same wheels and have been contemplating dipping them. Two questions: did you use the glossifier? How's the finish holding up?

I didn't use the glossifier, just regular plasti dip. They are holding up great, and I also did the same thing to my old truck and it lasted a long time. I've heard people say if you mark up or hit a curb you can just clean the area and respray.
