A/C SYSTEM 1997 K1500 SILVERADO

Recommended Posts

hello, I just purchased a 1997 Silverado K1500 with no A/C. I am attempting to trouble shoot it and need to know if the low pressure switch kills power to the A/C controls on the dash. Neither the A/C button or the recirculation button will light up. I just need to know if this is related to the compressor leak i.e.: out of Freon, or if this is a separate issue that I need to track down.

If anyone knows what the issue is feel free to share with me.

Thank you for your help

Scott

On my '95 Suburban I've had to replace the HVAC control module twice. Each time the lights quit working and I started getting intermittent operation from the knobs. On the same vehicle I replaced the low pressure switch once. A also replaced the low pressure switch on a friend's GMC Sierra. I haven't seen the controls affect the switch, or vice versa (at least as far as making a diagnosis goes). It's been pretty obvious it's one or the other because the low pressure switch typically will cause the system to just not work, and if you jump it and the system works and blows cold, that's usually the culprit. The control module will have light issues, bad contacts, strange operation, etc. (gremlins).
