so, the dealer i work it wants to sell more(they always do)... anyway, they are all older, theres one car guy here but they dont have anything really badass or exciting. its a gmc buick dealer...pretty lame. i want to propose building (random name) edition trucks or cars kind of like yenko did back in the day. im talking 6.2 reg cabs, cheyen concept clones, badass sierra that can out-do raptors..you name it. im just curious if you guys think the interest is there? obviously i like this stuff and most the people on here do too haha. you guys think they could sell(assuming my managers dont mark up the hell out of them... :nonod: ) i made a poll of some trucks, lets see what you guys like

The markup is because of the massive overhead a dealer has. To swap in a 6.2 would easily add like $10k to the price. There's a reason dealer installed lifted trucks cost so much.

oh, i know how the mark up's work. i was saying that because some dealers have insane margins on accessories and stuff. i know one near my makes like 70% on most the stuff they put on vehicles.

this is all hypothetical at this point, just gauging interest in this kind of stuff. i just feel like if we or someone elso could make a fast reg cab truck, that handled good and looked sweet for under like 45k, it'd be pretty cool. or other cool ideas?

Cheyenne build would be cool. Reg cab, short box, but with the interior of an SLT with leather and all the extra features. Also 6.2L and slighlty lowered suspension. I'd buy that truck.

exactly what im thinking! i wish gm would just make one. absolute dream street truck would be the new z06 engine in a reg cab sierra with the AWD driveline out of a denali and the interior from it too. then zr1 brakes and z/28 rim+tires. i want to build it! haha

You don't really have to go that wild, a 5.3 with a S/C. You could start with a slightly loaded single cab. Go crazy from there, like Ram does with the express truck. You could take a single cab work truck with a 5.3 put a s/c on it out the door for 30k easy.

i think that would be cool. thats what the first truck in the poll is. basically a S/C'd reg cab, cheap muscle truck.

What allways happens it ends up being cheaper to do it your self. By the time they add all the other stuff to go with the S/C the price drives up. I built my own lightning in 1999. I started with a sport truck with a 4.6 and a 5 speed added a posi carrier for the rear. Then I bought and installed a Vortec S/C. The truck cost me 18K the S/C cost me 2500$. The lightning was 31K. My truck wasn't as fast but I saved 10k and I wanted a stick. I had a blast with it.

your right, it is always cheaper. the good thing about buying it from the dealer is they stand behind it and you get a warranty. i bought an evo in 06 and the dealer had a bunch of stuff done to it already, had about 400hp and i got the awesome warranty to go with it. there is definitely trade offs.

either way, if i get them to go for it and build some cool stuff, you guys will be first to see!!

You need to be careful on dealer mods. They're not officially covered under the GM warranty. It's up to the dealer to either BS the claim or eat the cost on their own. If the dealer gets a new owner or closes, you can be out of luck.

I don't think we'll ever see the kind of prominence today that Yenko had in their time. Especially since many more dealers are modifying their vehicles (especially trucks). But if you could do it tastefully, there might be something there. Most dealer modded trucks I see are the same gaudy crap that every other dealer has, i.e. anything that can be bolted on and doesn't take much effort. Make it truly custom with paint to match chrome pieces, aftermarket steps, etc. and yours would be different from the rest.
