Steering wheel Radio controls

SpecRacerDriver

Question

Hey there everyone. I recently purchased a 2012 Sierra 2500 HD SL Extended cab long bed that does not have steering wheel radio controls. Does anyone know if they can be added? Has anyone done this themselves? What parts are needed? Thank you in advance for any help you may provide.

Yes, and no. Depends on what options your truck already has. On my 2010 1500 SL, it came with cruise control, and no radio controls. I purchased a new leather wrap steering wheel from dealer that came with radio controls and cruise. Took old steering wheel off, put new one on, and the radio controls worked with no further changes needed. There are many threads here on this modification.

It can be as simple as mine was, or could require wiring changes, clock spring change(part in steering column that allows the wheel to rotate and not twist the wire up) and new steering wheel. I think some have managed to add just the radio control pod into they existing wheel.

There is no simple generic answer to your question, you will have to search the threads here to locate what applies to your setup.
