2001 GMC Yukon XL won't idle, but will rev

supercal27

Question

So, this problem started about a month ago. The 2001 GMC Yukon XL 5.3 Vortec will crank up, then just die, not idle. If I rev it right after I crank it up though, it will rev just fine. But when I let off the gas, the idle gradually goes down and then the engine just dies. There is no check engine light either, which is odd. One other thing is that after it happened a month ago, I let it sit for about a week and then it started up just fine and has been running fine for about a month. The problem came up again today though. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Okay so the codes were as follows:

P0449-Evaporative emission system vent control circuit intermittent

P0404-EGR Control Circuit Range

P0141 O2 Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2

Before I went to get the codes scanned, I cleaned up the throttle body and removed the air filter, and the truck started right up like nothing happened...

Sounds like the issue may be coming from the IAC valve or maybe the MAF sensor. Both are easy replacements, but a code would be necessary to accurately diagnose. Scan it and report what you find.

the p0449 is not causing any of the issues. the p0141 may be contributing to the rough running, as well as poorer gas mileage. The real culprit is the EGR code, as a bad EGR can allow excess air into the intake. You can try removing and thoroughly cleaning the EGR. It may also need replacement. I have had good luck cleaning them.

You want to remove IAC and clean up the area with O2 sensor safe solvent, as well as the throttle body. Found this link on youtube. Not sure if posting a link to youtube is against the rules though. I will take the chance.
