2015 GMC 2500HD CrewCab Duramax Vibration...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Just picked up my new 2015 GMC 2500HD CrewCab Duramax SLT on thursday and have loved it, until yesterday when I took it on the highway.... around 65-75mph the truck starts vibrating entirely, can feel ,y seat vibrating and passenger seat vibrating as well as contents of vehicle vibrating. Unfortunately coudlnt contact dealer as they were closed for day but I will be reaching out first thing monday morning to figure out wth is going on with my $61k truck with 150 mile on it. kinda frustrating.

enough of the rant, does anyone have any thoughts on this? A bit of late night online research found people saying it needs tires roadforce tested or worse, that I will just have to live with it as there is no fix?

Thanks in advance for any help.

BTW, this truck is an upgrade to the 2014 GMC sierra 1500 i was driving and loved, just needed someing bigger, so i know they can build a great truck.

I had same problem with my 2015 2500HD gasser. Told dealer I wanted road force balance. When I picked the truck up from appointment for spray liner, LoJack, and balance they gave me a load of BS that they couldn't duplicate the problem, but they lowered tire pressure like they do on all HDs and people love it after that. Vibration was slightly reduced but still there. I flat out called them on the carpet with line they gave me, told them I wanted the road force balance that they previously agreed to and pressure back to door specs. Also told them I've been driving 3/4 ton trucks long enough to know how they handle and I bought a truck because I use it as a truck. They did the road force balance, showed me the before/after and tech was amazed how bad it was from factory. Vibration is now gone.

Hey Kevin,

I had my truck serviced and they ended up supposedly roadforcing all tires, which failed to be brought into allowed tolerances. I had all 4 tires replaced and was told problem solved. I will say the vibration is significantly reduced, but I am definately still getting a slight vibratration, which I note in steering wheel feeling and visually seeing both seats with a fine, high frequency shake vibrate. Do you think they should be able to get to me to virtually smooth? This is my first HD truck, as ive had 4 1/2 tons over the years so I am not sure if I am asking for too much. I was thinking of possibly out of pocketing a roadforce test and adjustment at my local tire shop that I know uses Hunter calibration tools in hopes of being done with the whole dealer back and forth. I cant afford to keep brining this truck in the shop and being out of service. Any words of wisdom?>

IMO a 3/4 Ton truck will never handle/drive/feel the same as a 1/2 Ton. If it does it won't be worth anything as a truck. Clearly I can't say how your truck is. Do I still feel some vibration at certain speeds? Absolutely. Do I feel it is excessive? Not anymore. Is it likely to return as tires wear and things change? Possibly. They are large tires with a lot of mass that literally throw their weight around which will be felt if they are the slightest bit uneven/out of round/out of balance.

A 3/4 or 1 ton truck will definitely have a lot stiffer ride than a1/2 ton due to much stiffer suspension. However, it should not exhibit more vibration. I test drove quite a few new HD GM trucks in the past and never experienced anything that could be characterized as a distinct vibration either in the steering wheel or seats. I think there is a widespread vibration problem with the 2014 and 2015 models across the whole line.

I just purchased a 2015 GMC 2500HD with a vibration/shimmy at 25mph that fades away at around 30mph.

It comes on again at 71mph and doesn't quit. I have had the truck into service multiple times where service checked all the body mounts, shocks, changed wheels and tires, and driveline. Nothing fixed the problem. They worked with GMC technical support and installed a vibration analyzer. Once the vibration levels were recorded they consulted with GMC and were told it was within normal specifications.

I am not satisfied with that answer and contacted GMC customer service. A case was created. Was called back by a someone with a foreign accent, hard to understand, and was told it was normal according to my dealer. He said I was the first complaint he is aware of with this problem. Now I know he is dishonest. I already know what the dealer said. They can feel it, it is reproducible but can do nothing about it.

Test drove a 3500HD, smooth as glass. Anyone have suggestions where to take it from here?

Your not the only one! I have been to the dealer 14 times about my vibration. I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500hd duramax Denali. GM will not do anything about it. Originally they said it was my aftermarket tires. 3 sets later, that was dismissed. Then it was my torsion bar keys "binding" up the suspension. Right, well the shake can be found in park. The engineer came down and was almost certain it was the keys. I replaced the keys with the stocks, and now the engineer is at a loss. A comparable truck measures at 3 mgs at the engine, 3mgs at the steering column. Mine was 3 mgs at the engine, 10 mgs at the column. That's in park between 1500 and 1750 rpms. That translates to about your 70mph rpms with 373 gears.

By the way. There was a 2015.5 sierra duramax denali in the shop with 4 miles on it doing the same exact thing!

Anyway, I got a call from the executive office today telling me that they will not give any trade assistance and want to fix it.

GMC sucks. They strung me out because I was close to the "lemon law" cutoff mileage...

I'm in the same boat! I bought 2 identical denali 3500s drw and one is terrible! They replaced all 6 rims and tires, which are ltx's, and it's still awful. Their supposed to do that vibration detection tool next week but I'm starting to get nervous after reading all this. I know the head of engineering at the Detroit Tech center and I'll drive it to "Bob" from Florida before I get stiffed! Very frustrating to have 125k in identical trucks to be able to compare them to each other. But at least I have realistic expectations because I have a comparison. I put over 200k a year on duallys and have had all makes. Now I own the best and the worst riding of all of them in the last 10 years and the only way you'd know is the last digit of the licence plate. Ahhh! I hope they man up and get this fixed or swapped asap!
