Fuel trim error code

Recommended Posts

I picked up my new Tahoe on Tuesday on the way home at 33 miles the check engine light came on. I stopped and checked the gas cap and it was fine. Nothing made it go out from restart to filling the tank. I called the dealer and brought it in yesterday. They reset the code and found nothing wrong. When I made a turn onto the highway leaving it came on again. They told me there should not be a driveability problem and it might correct itself. I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow. Just what the heck is this and how can it be fixed, the check engine light is still on. In Ny it will not pass inspection with the light on and a code.

Could just be bad gas. I got the fuel trim out of wack code before as well. My LTFTs were around +26 when this happened but the truck was running horrible. If it is running and idling fine I would run that gas out and refill to see what it does.

Thanks should being running the fuel down by the end of the weekend.

What is the status? Just curious if the issue resolved itself. Also, what code was in the computer that generated the Check Engine Light? Had to be a fault code, so the dealership saying nothing is wrong makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

In fact, there are many fault codes that the computer will register that do not generate a Check Engine Light. You would be surprised how many codes are present in a vehicles computer unknown to the driver. Usually, the meathead technicians clear all the fault codes before recording them all, so the fine art of troubleshooting is all but impossible these days at the dealership. You could insist on a detailed print out of all codes before reset, and start keeping a record yourself to see what is going on. A lot can be gleaned from these codes.

It sorted itself out they believe it was from a combination of the new plastics and coatings that were burning off causing the sensors to read erratically. Its coming up on a year and no siginificant problem.
