ac compressor will not engage

boclayton9

Question

I recently changed out my ac compressor dryer and orifice tube due to my compressor clutch locking up. I had a vacuum pulled and filled the compressor with oil and 1 can of freon and turned the ac on max as I started in with the second can the compressor ran for a minute or so then cycled on & off 3-4 times and quit engaging. I tried jumping the low pressure switch & it still would not engage. At this point the only way I can get the compressor to engage is to jump/bypass the relay (which I have already changed also)... I'm at a loss for what could be keeping the compressor from engaging...

  1. What pressures are you getting on both high and low sides?

What refrigerant did you use?

How much have you added already?

What is the refrigerant capacity for your a/c system?

What does "filled the compressor with oil" mean?

What oil did you put into the compressor?

How long did you pull vacuum on the system?

Did you have any wires left over after installing the new compressor?

Did you have any connectors on the compressor left over with no wire to connect to it?
