State Laws about people riding in open bed of a pickup.

It appears in CT it is okay for people to ride in the bed of an open pickup as long as they are 16 years and over. The CT Laws about seat belts in autos is that the front people have to wear a seat belt but people over 16 years old don't have to wear a belt in the rear seats.

In CA, it's illegal.

There's a lot of considerations and historical precedence that goes along with this issue. In states where there are families that only own one pickup they always rode in the bed. Farm workers are transported this way. In South Dakota, I ride in the bed of the truck, along with many others, during the pheasant season when groups of us go from one field to another, which can be miles away.
