2006 GMC 2500HD Lift Kit question

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine has a 2006 GMC 2500HD and he wants to put a lift on it to get some bigger tires on it. Right now it sits stock with the stock rims and the stock (small) 245's.

He would Like to get new rims and run a 4 inch lift with 33x12.5 tires.

Any recommendations on a 4 inch lift for this truck? I tried researching lifts and all I see is a lot of people running 6 inch lifts with 35's. He really doesn't want to go to a 6 inch lift because he still wants to be able to clear his garage door.

Also he is not a fan of big rims and wants to stick with a 17 inch rim. Any idea on the back spacing he would need to run with a 17 x 9

Thanks for any help.

He would be able to run 285s stock, just by cranking torsion bars a little. 285s are just shy of 33s. Dont think you would want to put 12.5s on a 9inch rim either. As far as backspacing its all preference.

I told him to crank the bars or do a 2 inch level with new keys and run 285's. He didn't like that idea. I ran that set up on my last truck (2005 2500HD) and he said he didn't want the stuffed tire look and would want a little more lift. I personally think it look good.

Why do you think 12.5's are not good for a 9 inch rim? I was just going by tire specs I saw on tirerack.com and for the General Grabber 33x12.5 it said recommended with was 8.5 - 11 for rim width. Do you think a 10 inch would be better?

How's it going guys? I'm new to forums. I googled info for lifts for 2014 siverados and stumbled on to this forum. I have a 2014 silverado z71 LTZ with a 6" pro comp lift and 35" AT pro comp tires. Reason for researching is well I feel the truck rides like sh*t. At 55 mph +, the truck shakes a a bit. Enough to rattle my passenger seat and drives me crazy. I bought the truck used with lift and tires warrantied. I have taken it in and have had my tires rotated and balanced. They even did an alignment. I read on precious posts that it should ride close to stock. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is the distance between your UCA and the upper bump stop?
