How to clean the intake on this 2012?

Recommended Posts

I installed a Jegs Catch Can over the weekend. Since I don't really use oil between changes (based on the level on the stick), I really didn't think the thing would ever have oil in it...less than 50 miles later, and it has oil in it. Go figure. So obviously its had oil in the intake, moreso than not. I run Schaeffers synthetic, and I know that stuff doesn't burn worth a hoot in an oil burner...so obviously it wasn't helping and now its in the intake.

Besides removing the intake, what's the best method to clean the intake on this 2012 6.0L? I assume its not direct injection, and just running a system cleaner through with the gas would do the trick? Since they have hydroboost, using the vacuum line for the brakes is not an option...could use the line from the PCV since it drops almost dead center into the top of the intake? I plan to pull the intake hose off the throttle body, and reach back in with a rag and wire...get as much soaked up as I can.

Or do I even worry about it at this point, and just let it clear itself?

Truck as 44k on it, runs pretty much the same as when I bought it. I know someone else mentioned they felt the truck ran different after the catch can, I know mine does...even my Wife mentioned it.

How does it run different?

Lost a good portion of my low RPM surging, and seat-of-the-pants feels stronger...I noticed it held a gear higher on hills on my normal commute (ie. it held 4th where it used to pull 3rd, it climbed a long grade in 5th where it used to require 4th). The Wife noticed the surging was reduced...

Again, all seat-of-the-pants; but that's the only change that was made...

What is a Jegs catch can? Also to clean the intake seafoam sells a can that has a tube attachment that allows you to "spray" the can into the intake. They have some YouTube vids on it.

Thanks, I'll look into that.

The catch can looks like this:

Meant to pull the oil mist out of the air stream from the PCV system.
