201 film4 GMC Front bumper clear bra

Recommended Posts

I was looking at a clear bra for my truck, read a lot about yellowing etc. Which one do you guys recommend? Any problems with them I should know about? How easily does the paint chip on the bumpers without a clear film?

Thank you

I can tell you from personal experience, the paint on the front bumpers chip easier than anything I have ever owned. I have a '14 Denali. Shortly after I took delivery of it in November, I drove it from Montgomery to Charlotte, NC to get it tuned. I came back with three small chips and two chips the size of a dime, and those two were deep.

I then made approx 6 trips to the dealership body shop getting the deep chips built up enough to sand and buff them out. After they did all they could do, which was pretty good, I found a clear bra guy here in Montgomery. He was magnificent. He used Expel film, supposedly one of the best on the market, and far superior to 3M. It also has a self healing ability...when it gets a nick in it, it will seal itself up again. I am very satisfied with it. I only wish I had done it immediately, before the road trip. However, in the 9 months since I had it covered, I have not gotten one chip or flaw anywhere on the front. I had the entire front end, the A-Posts and the leading edge of the roof, about 15 inches back, all covered for about $750, and I would do it again in a micro second!

Hope this helps. My suggestion, if you are considering it, you should do it ASAP! Good luck with your decision. Check the Xpel material, I think you will be impressed with everything you read.

Bought my 2014 AT last week and I'm having the same XPEL film put over the entire front end (lights included), 15 inches on the good and fenders as well. I might mention the A pillars when I go get it done next week. The guy quoted me right around $1000 for the whole thing done. Pricey? Yes. But in Canada where they sand the roads in winter, it'll be worth it I think since I plan on keeping the truck a long time

Xpel. Had 3m before on a couple cars. Xpel is just what OJ says. It is more plyable than 3M and self healing. Also warranty against yellowing. Based on other comments on here, I had mine done right away and still had a very small chip that was fixed with touch up paint before the Xpel install.

Installer did not do the chrome bumper and mirror covers, but everything else.

I put the 3M film on my 2011 SIerra and it still looks perfect. The truck is garage kept and we don't get much sun in WV. I have the 3M film on my Challenger front end since 2009 and it still looks perfect also. I could not put the film on the Jeep front end and it is getting road rash pretty bad so I definitely recommend some type of film treatment.

How noticeable are these films? And do you wax on top of them or anything or just leave them alone?

I've already touched up two chips in my hood and found another the other day, might have to look into getting this done.

I agree with Spurshot about Expel's Wax/sealer. It is good stuff. My installer put it on mine when he completed the install and gave me the remainder of the bottle. I have since purchased another bottle. I really like it. When it comes to clear bras there is no down side to Expel, in my opinion.

I have the 3M on my Z28 that I put on when it was brand new. It's 15 years old now and starting to show imperfections but overall I have been more than satisfied with it. It isn't turning yellow at all but is starting to show hairline cracks that seem to originate from underneath.

As others have stated, the Xpel film is very durable, almost invisible and has self healing properties. I had it installed on my 14 Denali about a week after I took delivery and have been very impressed with it. You basically maintain it just like your paint. OJ turned me on to Zaino products which work very well with the film. I would suggest that you also have your headlights and fogs covered as well. They only cost another 100 bucks or so and the film is UV resistant which helps keep the lights from getting that awful fog look after awhile.

  • 1 year later...

I have 3m on mine and I am happy but it is not that old. Mine is garage kept and waxed fairly often.

Have any of you had your chrome bumper done? I am thinking about going back to have that done a long with the a pillars and the mirror caps. I have two very small chips in the door. I have no idea what caused it other than road junk.

I think the ideal solution for a long lasting paint job is clear bra the whole vehicle.
