any one running 3.08s with a lift?

Recommended Posts

I want to regear my Sierra now that I'm running 35s. I've done searches and found a little info but has anyone seen ring and pinion sets for these 2014s yet? I know there is a way to make the 2013s work but I'd rather just buy the new set when they come out... Is anything on the market yet?

Are all the axles 9.5" or just the Max Tow? I read a thread on another forum months ago where a guy put 4.10 in his. I guess he made a set work and it wasn't perfect, so he said.

if you have a 6 cylinder truck then you still have the crappy 10 bolt. if you have a 5.3 / 6.2 w/out max tow then you have the new 9.5. if you have the max tow then you have the 9.7x ring gear.

Yeah... I believe this is correct. The new 5.3/6.2 have the new 9.5. The new max tow package came with 3.73s in a 9.76 rear end. I have a 6.2 with 3.42 right now. It's not bad.... but towing isnt great. it make 6th gear pretty useless. 4.10s would be perfect for my application.

You pretty much killed the gear with those tires. I may be a little extreme I would go 488s just to make it feel stock again, more if I was going to tow. Then if you have a lead foot you have to be carful not to break things. I always like the look of lifted trucks, Im just to much of a gear head to kill the power. Most of the guys I know that do that go with the diesel, then its as simple as a chip problem solved.

I would say you went a little extreme saying he killed the gears by going to 35s. I don't pull a 10,000lb trailer.. but with only a tune I am towing 3,000lbs better with 35s than when my truck was bone stock. Gas mileage and power. Cruising the highway with no load I am averaging 20mpg still. Simple update to the TCM and it relieved a lot of stress on shifting in and out of gear. 4.88s sounds like an overkill for 35s unless your rockcrawling. I'm no expert. My eyes are definitely set on 4.10s though should I require any gear swap.

Edit: I have 3.42 gears and the 5.3L

Yeah. I think I'll forego the 4.88s I don't want to be running 3000 rpm at 70 mph. 4.10s should do the job... but regardless of what ratio I decide to go with, I don't think they make any yet for the new rear end.

And btw... this is my first gas truck in years. The 3 previous trucks were diesel. After you replace multiple egrs injectors oil coolers etc etc... you realize you can do without 1000 ft/lbs of torque.

Darryl,

Do you have 4 Wheel Parts in your neck of the woods? They did my lift kit, phenomenal job. I ask because they were going to do my gears for about $1400 to 4.10s. So I imagine there are in fact gears for the new rear end. As far as the brand goes... I have no idea.

Come to mind... there's a guy one these forums that has a 2014 CC with 37s and he put 4.60 something gears in his truck. Assuming that is the same rear end you have.

Let me know

Yeah. There's one in Tampa. I'll check with them. I know some companies made a conversion with 2013 ring and pinion and a spaced rear differential cover. We'll see what they say. Thanks

The first thing most people complain about with a tire change is it killed their power and gas mileage. Its all over this web site. Just a two inch level in the front lowers it. You could be the lucky few. On my stock truck with the same gear you have soon as I go over 70 on the freeway Im down to 19 MPG.

2014 5.3L 4x4 with the 3.08s(unfortunately) looking at running a lift with 35s and wondering who else has this setup and what its like? I have done hours of research and it seems as of now there still is no kits really available yet to upgrade gearing without a fair amount of difficutly. with that being said, im wondering who has the 3.08s and done a lift with 35s? when a proven re gear kit becomes available I will be doing the upgrade but until then, who has it and how bad is it? truck is 95% highway driven.. anything that would help improve the situation until the re gear becomes an option? thanks
