Need a new battery

Recommended Posts

So the battery in my 07 NNBS truck is finally giving up. Its the original battery that came with the truck. What brands are the best mostly lookin at store brands as i'm tryin not to spend 200+ on an optima. NAPA, Oreilly's, duralast, or even interstate is what I basically have access too. Theres energizer at SamsClub but they seem to have crappy reviews. The walmart brand one seems to have good specs and a good warranty, but you know buying auto parts from wal mart seems a little sketch. I have sears in the area too but their website was being dumb so couldnt really see what they had.

If your OEM lasted this long, why not OEM? I have always had good luck with delco. And looks correct in the truck.

My service mgr at the dealer I use said buy it here and we install at no charge. Do not have to haul old battery back etc...

I have always used duralast until recently when I purchased a Kirkland battery from Costco. The Kirklands that I have used have always performed well in all of my vehicles from my HD sierra to my old honda accord. I have also found them to be very cheap as well costing around 20 bucks less than the duralast counterparts. So for me it's Kirkland and if they don't have the one I need then it's straight to duralast.

Check around, Certain part stores here carry them, if you rather diy. All GM dealers carry them. May have to ask around for free install if they do not know you.

Not cheap but my 09 oem is still going?? knock on wood. Most batteries today do not have prorated gty, They just carry a full replacement gty for so many months. At least with Delco, this is how it works. Delco has several levels based on cost. I think the top of the three at my dealer was around 160+/-??

Diehard Platinum is a great, but pricey, battery. Similar in construction to an Optima.

Since a Platinum wasn't avalable for my 2500, I went with the DieHard Gold Advanced. It's also an AGM battery, and about $50 less. If you buy/pay online, you'll pay less than paying in the store.

Both have a great warranty, and I've had zero issues with them. Now that I did the aux battery mod, I have two of them under the hood. Will never worry about a battery ever again.

Well i went with an ever start maxx h-6 from walmart. 730 CCA 900 at 32 degrees. was 117 plus tax. Has a 5yr warranty with free replacement for the first 3 yrs and proration for the last two. Had the best CCA I could find for the price and the warranty seems better than most others out there. Looks really similar to the original that came out of the truck.

Almost want to do the aux mod in my 1500 just because the main one is such a pain to get out.

I had a duralast gold up until this summer and it lasted 4 years. It wasn't dead yet but it wasn't holding charge very well and I just swapped it out preventatively.

Make sure to buy the grease and fabric ring things to save the posts and cables from rust.

+1 on the Costo Kirklands. I have them in all my cars. They are made by Johnson Controls (who makes most batteries), it is thier top of the line model with a 3 year free replacement. I had an Optima in my K1500, it lasted 4 years. Not bad, but the Kirkland lasted 7 years, and they gave me $30 when I returned it! Now I don't drive the truck a lot, but 7 years is good just to sit on shelf. Oh, and it was half the price of the Optima.

I used to buy Delcos, but the 2001 factory battery failed after 2 years, leaked acid out the post, corroded my starter cable and bracket. My brothers 01 Blazer did the same thing. Delco lost me as a customer for that. (The dealer did replace my starter cable under warranty)

Delco stuff is not the same since GM sold it off.

What he said ^

I would buy a Kirkland (Costco brand) battery, OR an Interstate Battery, which is also made (in USA) by Johnson Controls.

didnt think to look there, sometimes i forget about ebay to just buy things on

yeah the wholesaler was out of Wisconsin... I don't have a Costco or anything here so I can't vouch for the Kirkland but it sounds like a good deal too.... Delco replacements... Well I got a year out of the last one.... Never again.
