Have u had an Electronic Vibration Analysis done to ur 2014?

Recommended Posts

If your 2014 Sierra/Silverado has a vibration/shake, has a dealer used an EVA, Electronic Vibration Analyzer on your truck?

If so, what was the reading?

Did they give you any numbers and/or explain them to you?

Were you present during the analysis? If so, where did they mount or put the analyzer? How long did it take?

Did the analysis help or hurt your case about the shake/vibe?

Thanks for any info.

Taking mine in tomorrow to have the analysis done. Will report back with findings, but will be sure to ask a lot of these questions.

Had mine done due to 40 to 50 mph vibration. Don't recall the numbers, but they confirmed the observation. Upon receipt, GM ordered rear gear measurements that confirmed the need for rear axle replacement. After that was done, the vibration disappeared.

I found the complete details in the work order very interesting. Would be a big job to re-type it all into this forum, but if folks want I would do it when I have some time.

I'd hate to see you waste your time re-typing the details of the job, but may ask you for some high-level details based on what the dealer finds out with my truck tomorrow. From what I have read, it looks like you are the only person who actually had the vibrations eliminated. Hope I can say the same thing here in the next few days/weeks here.

To save you from typing, would you mind just taking a picture of the work order and posting it here for all to see. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow and this would be great ammunition for myself. Please help us out.

Im looking at having the EVA done next week. They just told me that a tech would ride along with me and I needed to demonstrate the vibe. Any details from someone that has been through it would be helpful.

Skylineflyer - Your request exceeds my limited abilities! The resident expert had her knee replaced y-day, so is very unavailable (too much info!).

I have the photos in the confuser, but don't know how to attach! I know how to send to an email address, but.....

My vibration was only between 40 and 50 mph, so may not apply. First drive (with mechanic behind the wheel) he noticed it immediately, tried shifting into neutral, increasing and decreasing speed, etc. Within days they rebalanced, road-force balanced, rotated tires, etc. No change. GM OK'd EVA which confirmed. My 2 page work order details what followed.

EVA results - (hooked to drivers seat track at 44 mph) "6HZ .03Gs. (hooked to vertical multifunction switch screw inside steering column) "28HZ .10Gs At that point dealer contacted T.A.C. Driveline and was given bad instructions for measuring the rear diff. After completing the measurements he was told (correctly) to "take backlash readings tooth to tooth on all of the ring gear teeth looking for a variance of no more than .0001 tooth to tooth and no more than .0002 total variance. First tooth reading was .0005, teeth 10,11 were .0006, tooth 20 .0005, 21 .0007, 22 .0006 (etc., etc)" ending with "the remaining 7 teeth were in specs)" "There were two areas where the backlash was out of specs."

T.A.C. then told them to "order a complete rear diff for a 2015 sierra." The rest is just a recap of the removal and replacement process plus the T.A.C. case #

Hope this helps anyone with a 40 to 50 mph vibration and an uncooperative dealer. This, at least, can be fixed.

Pmurray what is your build date?

There is no relevance in build date, they vibrate from the earliest ones made in May of 2013 all the way to the ones being put on the lot today. Granted there are a much higher number of vibe free trucks than there are ones with issues, but it is not limited to build date as stated before.
