2015 Yukon slow speed "fluttering"

Recommended Posts

Love the new Yukon, BUT it seems to have a slow speed power issue ?? We live on a long steep hill. If you are going around 20mph and keep a consistant speed, the vehicle starts to flutter or a power hesitation. I swear it seems like an exhaust leak, but its only on a long slow incline. Anyone having a similar issue?

Time to go to the dealer so they can say "can't duplicate the issue"

Same problem with my 2015 Tahoe. I am really starting to regret buying this truck.

It is only when you are driving slow like you said around 20. It does not drive smooth at all.

I can get into my 2007 yukon and put my foot on the gas pedal and just drive smoothly. With this Tahoe I feel like I have to concentrate on applying the correct amount of pressure to try to get it to drive smooth.

Anyone else? Dealer claims all is fine.

Hello Tobtek,

Did you ever get a chance to take your vehicle into the dealership? How'd your visit go?

Yes. The new Yukon has been at the dealership for 3 weeks of our 2 months of ownership. The field engineers keep trying new things on my truck. How did the R&D team not hear this buffeting????

Has GM done anything different on the new mid year release?

... "can't duplicate the issue" ...

That's what they say to you when they figure that you're somewhat smart.

When they think that you're stupid they will say: "that's normal".

And when they think that you're an idiot they will say: " the engine is operating as designed".

Just wanted to clarify.

so long

Tobtek -- Andraya wouldn't know nor would she care. Notice the number of GM Customer noCare posts have been made...contrast that to the number of issues resolved by their involvement.

Yeayyy, yet another issue I have to deal with. Loving it.

I notice this on the hills of SF, the car almost stalls and the cars behind start honking at me, then the gears change and the thing jerks like crazy.

At first I thought a fuel change might help because it was knocking like crazy with 87octain, but after changing to both 89 and 91 still the same except no knocking.

I really don't have the time to deal with all this issues.

I have also noticed this issue on my 15 Yukon, I thought it was just me at first but then I drove a friends and noticed a big difference. Has anyone had any luck at the dealership getting this issue resolved? I notice when I press lightly on the gas usually while on the highway, almost sounds like I am not giving it enough gas.

It doesn't do it all the time for me. Every time I get in the car I wonder will it be a good day or bad day. It's ridiculous.

For me, I notice it while driving down residential blocks when going slow. When I take my foot off the gas to brake and then go back to the gas quickly it's almost as if there is a delay and a clunking feeling.

The dealer claims all is fine and that they cannot duplicate. He thinks it might be the shift from v4 to v8 that I am feeling.

I'm not sure what else to do at this point.

I am taking it into the dealer tomorrow I will post the results. Like I said earlier I notice when I am trying to maintain a speed, mostly on the highway, if I lightly tap the gas I get a low vibration.

Is the engine in V4 mode when this is happening? It's worth pointing out that a V4 engine is inherently much rougher running mechanically then a V8. This is something GM had to deal with via various design features, but the reality is that it would be virtually impossible to completely eliminate any vibration from V4 mode. Something the marketing info does not tell you expect, but the nature of the beast. V4 mode is there to squeak out a little better mileage (in theory) but like everything in life, at a cost. Vibration in this case.

Of course, the other thing to consider is the electronic throttle on modern vehicles. For those of us raised on mechanical throttle linkages, these new electronic "throttle by wire" suck. The computer get the throttle input, then sends the output to the injectors. And, the designed can build in delays for various reasons, including damping, mileage, etc. who knows what things they dreamed up. Bottom line, is that the driver experiences "weird" throttle responses. Early Ford trucks with drive by wire throttle were notorious for this. I don't know when gM trucks went to it, but since this is the first generation direct injection engine, I'm sure that plus the direct injection may have some impact on these quirky responses. Can GM "correct it" ? That a matter if definition of the "problem". What's "correct" look like? This is a tough one.

Once the aftermarket tuners break into the computer on these truck, some of the first things they will do is allow you to turn off V4 mode and maybe even tweak the electronic throttle response. That may help some of the issues if GM doesn't see their way to come up with a different tune. That said, if enough people complain about the exact same thing, I would guess GM might come up with a new tune (aka "update") that addresses it. Matter of how many people complain.

I haven't noticed the vibration, but I'm too busy hearing the buffeting to notice much else wrong! I did notice the throttle response being delayed and "weak" we'll call it, but immediately attributed it to the above.

Just my 2c worth.....

As I was driving my vehicle around today I did notice that every time I felt a lag or vibration it was in V4 mode, I will point this out to the dealer and see if they can do anything to improve this. Keep you posted, thanks

I went to the dealership today and took the service manager for a ride, he told me that the car is driving as it should. I guess when the engine is in the V4 mode it's just going to struggle, I am going to drive it around a bit more to see if things improve, I only have 1900 miles.
