We had a call come in this morning about a dv at a apt complex. We got a description of the car from the mother and we passed right by them. My sgt was driving his crown vic and i was just switched to a 2010 dodge charger hemi. He took off onto i4 doing 110mph My sgt was leading the pursuit but i took over because the ford was way to slow i ended up cruising at around 135mph hanging with him and most of my back up was way behind in their cv's. I was impressed with the dodge even with my gear it will fly over 100mph, and is very well controlled. We spiked him and got him 15 minutes into the pursuit he was 21 years old and had put his hands on his 82 year old grandmother. Just thought i would share this job is out doing me at 51 years old. But i still can keep with the younger guys in foot chases im ready to get my 401k and retire.

If you said you had been driving a Camaro and easily paced the Stang, this story would be way cooler.

...cruising at around 135mph hanging with him...

135mph that's it?

I mean it's still fast. But I thought the Mustang can do more. Or the Charger for that matter.

Anyway good thing you got this guy off the road. Who knows how many lifes you've safed that day.

Mustang can do more? Making funnies I see haha

Ryan

Well, my German made Ford Mondeo I had back in the days did 125 with a four banger and 118HP.

Took a while to get there though...lol.

One would think that a Mustang can do better.

Edit:

Just for the record...I managed to get up the on ramp to the Autobahn with only 118HP.

Imagine that! Isn't it crazy?

We were cruising at that speed. I got up to 135mph and thats as fast as he was going. I believe our chargers govern at 155-165 depending on the year. Our crown vics will govern at 120mph.

I've been close to 120 in my Crown and it's scary as hell. Those things get squirrelly at those speeds.

The chargers will do around 150 IIRC... Right after the local SD got a couple they had to chase a guy on a bike... He still won, until someone called in where he hid the bike.

I believe now there is a rule about pursuing bikes at that high of speed.

I've heard that from more than a few LEOs about lots of Fords, which is why I can't believe law enforcement still uses them instead of PPV Caprices and Tahoes.

Funny how the rumour about police not being allowed to chase bikes get spread across an entire continent, but it is always in someone else's area. Been hearing about that rule for years, yet police will still chase bikes. This may be something as simple as police being told they "should not" as opposed to "can not" chase motorcycles. Those two terms do not mean the same thing. Sort of like saying "we would prefer you not to chase bikes, but, do what you have to do".

There is no way any responsible law enforcement agency would ever outlaw bike chases. That only leads to giving bikes a green light to do as they will, including no plates to avoid being caught or traced.

Of course due to production that's changing now. We're transitioning to Tahoes, which aren't worth a damn for pursuits either, but I suppose that's the overall theme in law enforcement now, as they are very dangerous and highly scrutinized.

Yup. Like the old 5 mile over the speed limit rule.
