E85 Gas gets more HP...wow

I wish I could try E85, but there's not anywhere within a good hour from here that sells it, which completely sucks. I know it takes more to burn so you get less mpgs, but being cheaper I wonder if in the long run E85 is cheaper per tank per miles.

I've been running it in my 5.3 with 342s for about six months now. It costs me 30 to 40 cents less per gallon than regular. I get around 17.5 on the Highway and 12.8 on short trips around town Considering the approximately 15% reduction in mileage it's more expensive per mile than regular. It's cheaper per mile than premium. The slight increase in cost is worth it to me. The truck is a lot more fun to drive. Acceleration is good. It'll set you back in your seat at way less than full throttle. I've driven it through the Eisenhower/Johnson Tunnel, where those Youtube guys tested them, and I had to watch my speedo to avoid a speeding ticket. Way more power than just adequate for the trip, and that's over 10,000 ft. altitude where the air is thin.

 

I'm lucky, I have two outlets selling E-85 close to me I wish it was more readily available across the country. That would allow me to use it on cross county trips, and guys in other areas of the country to try it..

I have tried 2 tanks of e85. I didn't feel a lot of power as others are staying. Around town I am down 3-4mpg which is acceptable to me. Towing an empty single axle with flip up ramp my mpg sucked. The crappy e10 that IL gets would have to do better I think.

I don't know if you posted that from what I said, but I went on a site that showed E85 locations and nothing showed up that was closer than about an hour from where I live. Both in NC and VA (I'm near the VA line). Oh well, not a big deal now that I know the cost is still more overall even while being cheaper at the pump.

I'm surprised you didn't notice an improvement in torque while not towing.

 

Granted, it's only 10%, but still enough to tell when you put the pedal down.

I'd love to try a tank of that stuff, but like others I have a bit of a poke to get it. Two places are about 23 miles away. One place in Pa. is 3.15/gal, the other is in Ohio at 2.22/gal. No brainer if I was to choose. I am curious about E85 mileage though. On 87 or 93 I always average between 20- 21 mpg.

I'm currently running E85 (purchased for $2.08/gallon). This is probably my 5th tank of E85 over the last few months. Spread has been $0.90 over E10 lately. Truck does feel a little snappier. With my ScanGauge hooked up, I notice almost no KR in V4 mode compared to gasoline. It stays in V4 mode easier too. I think this helps offset the lower MPG a little compared to gas.
