2003 Chevrolet suburban popping noise

Question

Hello ,

I have a 2003 Chevrolet suburban I have a popping noise when driving down a small bump in reverse with the wheel turned all the way to the left (like pulling out of the driveway). I just put new swaybar links on it The Ball joints seem good. If you have anywhere where I can start looking that would be great cause I am lost. Thanks in advance

Matthew

Lube the steering stops. Turn the wheel all the way to the left, and look for the spot that the spindle hits to stop it from turning too far. Should be the same location on both wheels. Just take some regular chassis grease and smear it all over the spots that rub.

Did you see anything that looked like a flat pad on either the frame or the spindle, and another chunk of metal sticking out that looks like it has been rubbing on something? If it is causing the noise, it will be covered in red rust powder. Easiest way to tell if that is what is doing it is to back up and get the noise to happen, then try it again and don't turn the wheel as far by turning the wheel all the way to the stop, then let the pressure off the steering wheel, plus about a half inch more. See if the noise is the same or if it is gone. If gone, then it will be the steering stops doing it. There should be steering stops on both sides of the truck.
