Still No New 2500 HD Double Cab or Crew Cab with "Short Box"

Recommended Posts

Just Standard Box 78.86" & Long Box 97.76"

- the1500's are again offered as a Crew Cab with a 69.33" Short Box

no sure why - but a new 2500 HD Double Cab Short Box would work for me, ya, it's only 9'+- but still - I Plow Snow and shorter is better & I want some rear seat room, and no short box in the HD Crew Cab as well

must have sometihing to do with the existing Frame comfiguration ... they don't want to build that HD frame because the sales numbers will not be worth it (?)

My guess is that there wouldn't be much demand for it. Many guys that need a serious truck like a 2500HD, also need the bed space. Most 2500HD's are used for 'truck stuff' more often than 1500's, and that often means hauling stuff in the bed. There just isn't a whole lot of room in the short bed. And just fyi, the standard bed double cab is very close in overall length to the crew cab short bed.

I agree, but I don't prefer the Crew Cab look

all 1500's come in short beds 69.33" or standard beds 78.86" (except reg cabs which offer ONLY long beds))

all 2500's come in standard beds 78.86" & long beds 97.76"

I like the bed size on the 1500 Crew Cab "Short Bed" = wheel base 143.5" & bed 69.33" and wish they made that in 2500 for my needs

vs the offered 2500 Double Cab "Standard Bed" = wheel base 144.2" & bed 78.86" (like you said - almost the same wheel base)

I would order a 2500 Double Cab shortbed if such a thing existed - with a wheel base of 133 +- (simular to the regular cab) - it would be short but roomy - can't have everything in life

my 2011 Extended with the Standard box is just a bit too long plowing driveways, and the Reg cab is way too small inside for me

like you said probablly not enough demand

(and maybe it wouldn't look too great after all) or maybe it could catch on (?)

The truck market is growing every year

ps - the tahoe / yukon wheel base is only 115" & 130" but no HD

The 5'8" box has no room for running a 5th wheel/gooseneck in terms of turning angles with a trailer attached (no manuverability). Chances are someone with a 2500hd may or may not tow such a trailer and if that box was an option it would be useless.

I see tons of driveways get plowed with ext cab standard box all the time...

Short box just isn't going to be practical and profitable for GM to produce. These HD trucks are made to be working trucks and while there is a certain cool look to a short box 2500.. the auto makers are going to build what sells strongly and thus save on tooling and parts costs to make just a few of what otherwise might not sell well.

Agree - the 1500 Crew Cab Short Box has a good look but NOT offered as a 2500 HD Crew Cab Short Box, and A LOT of 1500's are sold that way - I've been hoping now for 15 years - Oh Well

BTW - I've been plowing for 12 years with an extented 2500 and turning around in a tight driveway is no bargain, a 5 point turn really beats up the power steering & me, I never tried the former offered rear wheel steer but owners claim it was Great Option

That's interesting that you are wanting that kind of a setup. I was actually hoping to find a crew cab 1500 with the "standard" 78" bed. GM doesn't make one.....but Ford does! I'm more than happy with my 2500, and won't look back at this point.

I suppose you could custom make one to suit your needs...

Actually, the standard 6.5" bed is now an option on the 1500 crew cabs...

And to the OP....they actually made a few 1500's in the previous gen that were extended cab, short (69") beds. Do you need a 2500?

My apologies, I forgot that I saw that a few months ago!

And to answer your question "The Rod"....Yes/No. I bought slightly more truck than I needed at the time, but now I fully need the 2500 as I work construction and haul with my truck. I had it, so I used it. Now, I will definitely be looking for a crew cab 2500 next(mine is ext cab), but I'm trying to decide if I have enough driveway/garage space for the 8' bed! Whatever size I have will always be too big and too small....depending on the task at hand.

I had a 2500 Crew Cab Long Bed and there was *NOT* enough garage space. I could fit it into the garage, with about 4 feet of the back end sticking out :flag: An extended cab standard box might get you in though at least on a 1500.. :dunno:
