So I've ordered my 2015 LTZ...

Recommended Posts

After combing these forums for some time, I've decided to join.

I currently drive a fully loaded 2012 Silverado 1500 LTZ, extended cab, sunroof, etc. It has 36k on it, and has been bar-none solid with zero issues since I took delivery at 3 miles on the clock.

I played around with a 2015, similarly optioned (minus the roof) and loved that GM fixed the dimmer, the cargo light switch, and other options. I also fell for the Rainforest Green paint.

So my order is in for one Silverado 1500 with basically all the boxes checked: 5.3L (the 6.2L 8-speed made me too nervous. The 6 already doesn't know what gear it wants to be in.), Crew Cab (only way I could get the sunroof), 3.42 gears, LTZ, LTZ+, all the electronic/safety upgrades, etc.

I hope all the kinks of the new platform have been somewhat worked out by now.

Now while I wait for it to be built, I'm down to the "Dealer installed" options. Aside from splash guards (something I think trucks should be mandated to have) and a bed coating, The two I'm considering are....

- The GM Accessories 10" Kicker subwoofer add-on (the basic Bose lacks a bit in the low end, and I don't want ot install another aftermarket system. I have one in my Camaro already. This would be approved and installed by GM and my dealer, keeping the warranty intact.) ... Has anyone ever had one of these installed? I understand they were also available on the 2014 models. I'm not expecting anything immense, just something to fill the low end (< ~300Hz) gap of the 6/8" Bose sub. It also saves me the time of running wires and mounting an amp in the back, etc. I like to keep my trucks "unmodified" so they will trade/re-sell nicely.

- The Borla "factory" exhaust option. Again, warranty friendly and hopefully a good middle ground between the factory silence and a high-flow catback from the aftermarket with more roar. My Z28 has a true-dual stainless Kooks system and headers that sounds like a dragstrip. I want the truck to be a little more tame. Will the dealership give me the stock exhaust if I ask for it? I don't get some sort of discount for letting them have it, right?

Thanks in advance for any input. If there's anything I should concern myself to check when it arrives, please let me know.

Nice truck you have coming. I think, and don't hold me to it, but I think the Kicker Upgrade is not available with the Bose system.

I know there's two packages.

One comes with the additional 400W interior amp, and that's for non-Bose systems. (It's also $1000+)

The other one, the 200W sub-only package will work with any audio system, verified by Kicker themselves. (I called.) (This package is around $500 MSRP)

I don't have the P/N for the sub-only package. But I did have the GM parts counter pull the other system by mistake and it clearly says the Bose RPO is incompatible. That's what prompted me to call Kicker directly with the number supplied by the parts counter. The GM sales folks were clueless in either case. It always pays to check around first! LOL.

PS: Looks like you got a new truck on order as well. Good luck! :)

From what was posted on here, supposedly neither of the kicker systems will work with the BOSE system. I don't think anyone with the BOSE setup has tried yet. I have the BOSE in my truck and would like it, but I also have the under seat bins as well and like them as well.

Also I would have went the 6.2/8sp route no problem, all of the reviews have said it shifts better than the 6sp transmission and that GM finally cleaned up the shifting calibration to dang near perfection.

Believe me, had it not been for us wanting to build another house in 2 years and me wanting to order a Vette once that house is built I would have contemplated selling my truck and ordering a 2015 exactly that way I want it.

Interesting. I wonder why the technician at Kicker told me it will work with the factory premium Bose system?

I looked it up, the Part # for what I want is 19303118.

The full system for a non-Bose setup is 19303117. This lists "Not for RPOs: UQA (Premium Bose System), NKC (Noise Cancelling System)"

I need to get into the system my dealership uses to see the "Not for RPO" codes on the one I want.

Based on this site, it doesn't list the premium system as a NOT FOR....

But you'll notice on their page for the FULL, not for Bose system, it does say the same as my dealership did:

Hmm, so forgive the greenhorn questions, but this is the first vehicle I've had built to order, and I'm a bit confused about the process.

The GM live chat told me I was supposed to be given an order number the day I signed the retail order paperwork. I didn't get anything to that effect. It's been a week. When I should I realistically expect to have this order # in hand?

My second concern is that I foolishly didn't look into the details of trade-in value when it comes to a build order. The sales rep said "We'll give you a solid trade on the truck when the new vehicle is at the dealership for delivery." But if you flip over the retail order paperwork, they talk about the trade value being re-assessed at delivery on the new unit. Did I screw up by not making them give me a trade value up front on the paperwork?

My 2012 Silverado based on Edmunds and NADA is valued at $29,100-$29,900 for excellent trade-in (~$33k for resale retail price). The truck is flawless and meticulously maintained, so I expect a close trade in on the truck. However, not having this on the retail order binds me to whatever they offer me when the new truck arrives it seems, without being able to recover my deposit if they try to screw me on the trade value.

The deposit I left was only $500, and that was after I contested them and they absolutely insisted that GM requires them to have a deposit in hand. I hate playing the idiotic sales games...

I'm starting to get nervous about this deal.

I think the subwoofers are not for the Bose system because the Bose has the active noise cancelling system. The additional power will probably make things really bad for sound. Bose tends to tune things really tightly from my experience. I've got a 2015 LTZ with the Bose, and it's quite loud and has good base. Noticeably better than past GM Bose systems.

I added a few dealer installs myself, ordering from online. Like the driver side "oh-shit" handle, and the rear seat under storage (It's very smaller compared to the previous generation pickups!) And the bed lights (yes those are dealer installed. Super easy though.)

I ordered a truck with my dealer, went through all the options I wanted, production week is 3 Nov. I have not signed anything and they did not require any money upfront. Salesman told me if I don't buy it someone else will :).

Not sure about it being a GM requirement...

But it definitely could differ depending on dealer.

Mines also no signature no deposit, but my dealer sells lots of trucks and my configuration is the type of truck they would stock anyway. It benefits the dealer anyway as sold orders have priority of stock orders.

I see you have a 2011 duramax. Are you happy with it? Did you order another duramax or switch to gas? Of you switched why?

I love the '11 Dmax, but don't need it's no longer need it's capability and want a shorter truck (DC) that will fit in the garage.

Going to a 6.2 8spd, and was hoping for the NHT, but don't want to wait til Jan. NHT is also the only way to get the new towing mirrors so I'm going to go back to the small mirrors as well.

I know I'll miss the massive torque and passing power available with the dmax (max torque is at 1600 rpm so the engine does not need to scream to accelerate strongly), but hope that new truck, better ride, better overall mpg and cheaper fuel will ease the discomfort.

I wouldn't get bent out of shape about it. Keep the positive energy. Not every dealer out there is shady and just wants to screw people. Wait until the truck comes in, and see what they offer you on trade in. If your not happy, walk away from the deal. They know your a serious buyer since you ordered it the way to wanted, and they will want to make the sale, so I'm sure they'll do you alright on the trade.

I may be mistaken, but I think the Noise Cancelling System is a different RPO ("NKC"). I have my build sheet and there's no mention of that code with my 7-speaker Bose package ("UQA"). On either the options added, or the standard equipment.

Edit: I think I see it as a subnote on the UQA package... But only required when ordered with a 6.2L, which mine isn't... Guess we'll see. Is yours a 5.3L? Can you check for that NKC code on your RPO sticker in the truck?

But... We can get a driver's side handle?! FFS, sign me up!

That's what I'm hoping for. They are still dodging me when I ask for the build order #. Even GM themselves told me it should have been available after they entered it, but the salesman ignored my call and voicemail on his cell, and the only way I got him on the phone was through the dealership's front desk. He claims he won't get the order # until it's put into 3000 status. But at that point, if there's something wrong on the sheet, it's too late. I asked him to get it anyways, and he never called me back.

But I will try to stay positive...

Well, GM Live Chat wasn't a huge help....

System [5:11 PM]: Welcome to Chevrolet
System [5:11 PM]: www.chevrolet.com
System [5:11 PM]: Connecting…A live chat agent is now entering the chat.
System [5:11 PM]: Welcome to chat.
Customer [5:12 PM]: Hello, I have a specific questions regarding option codes on a new 2015 Silverado 1500.
Customer [5:13 PM]: I'm curious if when ordering the UQA - Bose Sound System
Customer [5:13 PM]: On a 5.3L truck
Customer [5:13 PM]: If the NKC Noise Cancellation will come required or not.
Customer [5:13 PM]: I know on the 6.2L it is required.
Customer [5:14 PM]: I would prefer to not have the NKC code on the stereo.
Customer [5:14 PM]: (On a 5.3L motor)
GM Rep [5:15 PM]: It is required with the 6.2L engine, however, it isn't listed as required with the 5.3L engine.
Customer [5:15 PM]: I have a build sheet from my local dealership and the NKC code isn't specifically listed.
Customer [5:16 PM]: Should I assume that means it is not equipped with that Noise Cancellation System?
GM Rep [5:17 PM]: Everything is indicating it is only required on the 6.2L engine. However, I'd like to reach out to a local dealership to verify this information.
Customer [5:17 PM]: The reason why I'm asking is that I would like to also order the GM Accessories #19303118 for the truck.
Customer [5:18 PM]: But that lists the NKC as a "Not for RPO"
Customer [5:18 PM]: I can wait for you to look into it. Thank you in advance.
GM Rep [5:18 PM]: I'll be just a moment, Thank you!
GM Rep [5:25 PM]: Both the Bose sound and the Noise Cancellation do require the 6.2L engine, however, it is not listed as an option with the 5.3L engine.

So perhaps, maybe, the NKC only comes on the 6.2L Bose-equipped trucks. Maybe.

A screen shot of the build-your-own website:
NKC_code_required_zpsdeeef4d3.png

So things are looking good, I guess.

Anyone with a 5.3L 1500 truck equipped with the Bose UQA RPO code want to see if NKC shows up on their options code sticker?
