09 silverado 1500 5.3 missfire issue

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I'm Wayne, new to the forum, first post.

I'm working on an 09 Silverado 1500 4x4 5.3L.

It's got a definate missfire/shake issue going on.

It's throwing 4 engine codes.
1. p300 random mulitiple missfire

2. p307 number 7 missfire

3. p106 MAP sensor....

4. p0521 Engine oil pressure sensor range...blah blah blah. However the oil pressure gauge always reads normal

Many times I've seen bad map sensors cause all kinds of wierd stuff. Missfires, shaking...etc.

I'm wondering if maybe the miss codes aren't being caused by the map sensor issue.

Question, EXACTLY where is the MAP sensor located on this motor? (5.3L Vortec)

Given it's so new and only has about 100k miles on it I'm doubting it's the coil pack or plug wire causing the number 7 miss but stranger things have happened.

I wanted to throroughly inspect the wiring and plug and MAP sensor but I'm not sure where it is on this thing.

It's also throwing an ABS/traction control code.
C0561 ABS system disabled Invalid data...something or another.

Given that I'm getting several codes I'm starting to suspect a wiring issue. Especially with the oil pressure sensor code when it's reading good oil pressure at all times.

I cleared the codes and test drove it this morning. The check engine light was back on before it was out of the shop and the engine light was flashing while going down the road. I stopped somewhere and was inside about an hour, came back out and drove home. No check engine light on or flashing on the return trip but it had thrown the map sensor code, and both misfire codes.

The owner is a used car dealer. So it's gotta be done fast and cheap. He doesn't care if it last another 200k miles. He needs it fixed so he can sell it. I've only got a couple of days to work on this so please pass on any info or ideas as soon as possible.

It's in the bay now and I've got 6 other vehicals waiting on me. Again, time is of the essence here.

This looks like an awesome forum. Glad I found it and hope you guys can help me out with this customer and MILLIONS more! LOL

Thanks,

Wayne
