Rattle front drivers side. Feel it through the floor board

Recommended Posts

Curious if anyone has experienced or corrected this issue? I have tightened Strut Mounts, checked wheel bearings, lift kit parts and any other bolt I can get a wrench on. It is audible and can feel it through the floor board at low speeds, at high speeds it can only be felt. I do have a suspension lift so not sure if it is related or not. At this point I feel like it is the strut itself?? Only occurs when going over small bumps, large bumps I don't notice it. 5mph on a gravel road will drive you nuts.

Bump, anyone? With all of the problems on this forum if no one has experienced this I am thinking it has to be the strut or the lift kit itself somehow. Might have to upgrade to a set of coilovers to see if it fixes it.

Is it possible either of those are loading and unloading? I mean there's not a whole lot it could be.

I don't know but it is something good to check. I will pull them when I get home and ease around to see if it goes away. Thanks for the idea.

I don't have a lift but I do hear something rattle front driver's side occasionally on bumps at lower speeds like you say. To me it sounds like when a sway bar rattles when the bushings are worn out. I checked the top strut bolts and they are tight, I didn't get a chance to check anything underneath yet. I've heard this noise since the truck was new, almost 3 months old now. I don't really notice it on the highways.

I just had this issue on my high country. It is not lifted but your issue sounds the same as mine. when driving slow over bumps you could hear a clunking noise in the front drivers side. it was less noticeable when above 20 mph but very noticeable below that. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the front drivers side strut. That solved the issue. They originally looked at the truck and didn't find anything loose so they called gm and gm told them there were 5 other cases of the strut causing an issue like that. It sounds like something inside the strut lets go and has to be replaced. May be something for you to check out.

Thanks. I checked some more stuff today and I think it has to be the strut. I removed the braces for the lift and the noise was still there.

Mine is 4wd as well ALL TERRAIN package. I have the 2" RC leveling kit on mine and I am having the same clunking noise that has been mentioned above. The noise started after the leveling kit was installed. IT DRIVES ME CRAZY! The truck will never replicate the noise when I take it to the dealer, and I've taken it to multiple shop to have it looked over and nothing wrong could be found. After reading this post today I drove to the dealer and mentioed this thread and they are willing to replace my strut and the mount as a customer satisfaction type of fix because they can't determine where the noise is coming from or can't find anything wrong. I'll take the truck back on tuesday. I hope this fixes my truck....

Let us know if it fixes it. If it does I will probably go ahead and order my coilovers.

CA, what struts are you currently running?

They are the factory Rancho's with a spacer on top to get the 6". Been wanting to upgrade to the coilover setup so this might be an easy sell to the wife.
