Anyone ever ran the Super 40 series?

Recommended Posts

I already know That the Super 44's sound really great on the 6.0 engine. I know quite a few guys with them though and just want something different. I have heard the original 40 and like it but am not crazy about it. I want some thing that's pretty noticeable in the cab but not too overwhelming. Also, I know that it is not recommended too go over 3 inches when running duels, but I have heard that 2.5 iinch is louder than 3 inch? Sorry for the endless text, videos don't do any justice. I have an 2001 2500hd crew cab by the way.

I had true duals with 2 Super 40s on my 98 and it sounded decent but wasn't as loud as I would have wanted. I know dual mufflers will make it a little quieter than just one but I don't think it's a huge difference, just enough to tell. I have 1 Super 44 single in/dual out with 2 1/2" pipe and it sounds awesome and is loud (everything in front of muffler is stock). From what I understand the 40 and 44 are the same loudness just a little different tone. And ya with a small block V8 I wouldn't go bigger than 3" but no smaller than 2 1/2" in either a single or dual exhaust. As for which pipe size is louder, I'm not sure. It's probably not enough to really notice.

If you don't want something that is overwhelming maybe you could do 2 Super 44s so it will have the tone you like but not be as loud. I love a loud truck that pisses some people off so I like the Super 44 setup on my truck, I just can't stand glasspacks because it sounds shitty.

Yeah I had 2.5 inch duels on my 98 5.7 and it wasn't even as loud as I would like. But my buddy has the same setup on his 6.0 and its really loud.. the 6.0 is just a loud engine haha. I'm hoping it I do go with the super40's then they we be noticeably loud. That's why I wanted some feedback. I want my truck to be different.. I swear everyone with a 6.0 around here is running the 44's!

Do you think a single muffler is louder than two separated mufflers and duels? I thought duels would be louder with 2 mufflers..

I assumed that too, but I've read on a lot of different places that 1 is louder than 2. I guess with a single muffler all of the sound is coming out of the one so maybe that's louder than the sound spreading out into 2 mufflers. As said the owner of the shop I normally go to said that the Super 40 and Super 44 are the same loudness with just different tones. That sounds about right cause on the Flowmaster site they're side by side I believe on the loudness chart. So if that's true then the single muffler with dual outlets are a lot louder than 2 mufflers. The super 44 seems to have a little more aggressive type sound while the 40 is more of a cleaner sound where the tone doesn't seem to change. The setup on my 98 5.7 wasn't really that loud unless I WOT it while the setup on my '14 sounds good at idle, cruising around town and of course at WOT.

Had a Super 40 on my 03. It was fairly loud, droned in the cab like hell which sucks on the highway and it rusted like mad like all FM stuff does because their metal is crap. I'm over having a truck that loud. lol

It was a kit. 3" in dual 2.5" out of memory serves. Exhaust exited ahead of the passenger tire. Tailpipes fell off after a year or so due to the junk clamps they supply that rotted out. Honestly they sound good but I'll never buy FM stuff again due to their rust issues.

Funny since I got my 98 back in 04 and it had 2 Flowmaster mufflers on it (not sure which series) and they looked like they had already been on the truck since almost new and they held up on that truck til I decided to redo most of the exhaust this past winter.
