Front Camera

Recommended Posts

I know there is a couple topics about this and there seems to be some interest so I thought I would bring it up again.

I am finding it hard to get used to the length of the font of the truck. My SLT has the rear camera but not park assist.
Is there anyway to hook up a front facing camera to the factory head unit?

Short answer: No.

You would need some way of activating it, and I'm not aware of a street-legal input or allowance for a forward-facing camera. It breaks driver distraction rules similar to allowing video to stream to the unit while not in park. Judging from your question, being in park would be useless for your needs. Even aftermarket units are supposed to be wired to a speed sensor and e-brake to prevent this, by law.

This is also why the factory units lock out from inputting addresses when moving.

Personally, this is part of the reason I back into parking spots in my truck (having a rear camera and rear parking assist on my 2012). It also makes it easier to exit the spot.

On the previous models, it was possible to run one camera to a head unit and one to the screen in the mirror. Look up ADC mobile, if anyone can do it it's him.

I spoke to ADC. They have a camera that can be hooked up but he said because I have factory nav It couldn't be done.
