Leaf Spring shot or Driveshaft bent?

Recommended Posts

Guys I'm looking to start leaf springs on this truck, I just put new tires on the rear and still bouncing not crazy or anything, more like if a wheel was bent, Has anyone had to fix this on the 99=06 trucks I know they did some towing with the truck but would bad leafs springs do this or could it be the driveshaft?

When I did the T-case I found that the slip yoke into the T-case was scorend with lines in it from rubbing the housing.

I buddy said that the leaf springs could be shot giving the rough ride

I DONE

Transfer Case

Reflex Shocks

U-joints

Spider Gears

changed the Rims and tires "Also rotated them"

This is just crazy all this and the thing rides like a tank, I thought these truck would ride smooth, If I can't find the problem I'm just going to sell it and move on. Thx Jon

Please Help!!!!!

bouncing is normal for springs ,,,,,

shock absorbers prevent that ,,,,,,,if you bounce up and down on the bumper and let go the truck should go up,down and stop ,,,if it keeps bouncing shocks are toast

Please read I have NEW SHOCKS in only a month old

Yeah a little low profile but the stocks where about the same ride, it has gottin better since I moved to the 20's I only bought them b/c 1 cheap two new tires I found that one stock was bent the ( hmm VIBRATION......) Vibration seems to be a better explaination than bouncing. everything on my center console vibrates and shakes. maybe the Front Right Wheel Bearing??? I did the Drivers side AND it didn't make noise till we took the tire off and checked it after that it started making noise. Last one, Maybe the front diff? but the vibration feel to be coming from the back but I know vibration can carry though a truck and make you crazy, as I am. Thx guys for the replies! Jon

Did you put LT tires on it? Do you have a short sidewall on your tire because you are running 20's? These reasons give a rough ride too.

Found that the leaf spring are making a noise, I got under the truck and lifted the truck with one hand and poked around, I'm going to try some grease and inject it into the leafs, but can they make a vibertion? If bad? going to a buddy's shop to do some welding, I'll see what it does. Thx Jon

Shoot some WD40 on the springs and give it a drive around.. I don't think any of your issues that you have explained have any thing to do with the leaf springs. You may have an issue with your springs as well but I think you definitely have something else going on here.. Take the driveshaft in for balance maybe..

Yeah deep some deep creep seafoam and no more noises but I did find a pit mark or "dent" really small ner the rearend on the driveshaft I also found when doing the T-case a while back that the slip yoke had rub marks I MEAN RUB MARKS not little marks but deep marks I think I'll find a local shop to give that drivesgaft a spin see what happens, don't think it would hurt rg. BIG THX Jon

So got to think on this...... When hitting the brakes the back of the truck picks up, kinda like any other auto when hitting the brakes, BUT with mine, when I let off the brakes the truck drops, I think the leafs might be so back that they are letting the brakes twist the axle up.... now I know some would think, "well new shocks stop that". I not thinking so if the leafs are as bad as I think. The force is up and I think oe replacement type shock are not going to combat the whole alxe from moving up in this bad of a issue. Just my thoughts on this, I always get the weird stuff WHY?!? :banghead::banghead::banghead:

You need to find a spec for "D" height check , top of axle tube to the jounce bumper mount , that will tell you once and for all if leafs are done
