Weird Heating Issue

Recommended Posts

So on my drive home tonight the heat in my truck wouldnt heat up like it usually does. Usually the heat gets warmer and warmer as the truck gets up to 210 degrees. Well tonight (it was ~35 degrees out) i had it on heat and it was blowing ice cold right until the coolant temp got to 210. Then it instantly started blowing hot air. I got home and pulled into my parking lot. As soon as i put the truck in park the heat turned to ice cold and my voltage dropped (to around 13 volts) and my voltage never moves of 14 volts usually. The lights also dimmed a little bit. While in park i reved the engine to 2000+ rpms and that brought the voltage up and after about 30 seconds the heat started blowing hot again. Any ideas?

Time for a coolant flush and a new thermostat my friend. That'll take care of things. Have a shop do a good flush on it. If you can find a shop that has one of these, it's gonna do an awesome job and will likely even get into the heater core and clean that out as well. You'll be shocked at the amount of crap that this flushing tool gets out that other flushing systems leave behind. I had it done and am a firm believer in it now.
