remote start duration

Recommended Posts

i have a 2015 hd3500 dually with remote start, is there an option to change the duration of run time before shutting itself off ? it only runs for 10 minutes and then i have to restart it. it is the factory option from gmc. also anybody else notice when heat or ac is on high and you open the door that there is a severe "popping" sound. i guess this is from the positive air pressure in the cabin.

I haven't found where you can change the time limit. It's also 10 minutes for my '14 1500. For a gasser I know 5-10 minutes is just right, but for the Duramax I would have set the timer longer being a diesel.

As for the popping sound, I haven't noticed anything like that.

If you do the remote start process again while the remote start has been activated once, it should keep it going for 20 min. After that it will no longer allow a remote start until a certain time limit has passed. Should be in your owners manual regarding that.

FYI- The Block heater will not work at temps above 30F or right around there.. it has a built in thermostat in the cord. Not sure about prior to the LMMs, but on my 08LMM it said in the owerns manual that the glow plugs and engine is advanced enough that it does not need assistance from the block heater for starting and fluid warm up at temps above that 30 something threshold, so you can plug it in at night but unless the temps get below 30 or 32 or whatever the threshold is, the block heater will not come on. Now, when it does get below that temp and the heater comes on, yes you do notice a slight difference in time it takes to heat up but regardless they are good engines and do quite well in the winter. (This is with regards to the Duramax, not sure about the gasser)

You can extend the remote start 10 minutes more by doing the remote start procedure again while its already running. You have to do it before it times out or it will shut off and you have to start it again. Only lets you do it twice before having to put the key in the truck.

There's no plug for my engine block heater. Works on startup.

Yep, but make sure you wait until the time is almost out as you only get 10min. more once you remote start again.

The coolant heater plug is on the passenger side, generally near or under the battery, tie wrapped so you may have to feel for it. Use a bright light. Then stretch it as tight as you can and you can usually end up running it to just outside the grill if you so wish.
