Broke fuel pressure regulator hose(possible fuel return line)

Brandon87

Question

I have a 2002 gmc sonoma with the V6 4.3 Vortec and just about an hour ago I was outside under the hood checking things out when I noticed that one of the fuel pressure regulator hoses is broke, The hose that is broke is on the drivers side and it comes up the firewall right next to the fender, It is supposed to connect to this T connector that is connected to the fuel pressure regulator. I am guessing that the hose that is broken is part of a fuel return line but I am not to sure. I will try to take pictures if i need to. How should I go about fixing this? it is like a small plastic line that is made for a rubber hose to connect to. I appreciate all feedback guys

If it was the fuel return line you would have a fairly significant fuel leak, especially on engine over-run(no throttle, coasting). I agree with 8.1HD/ALLISON, it is very likely the vacuum line. Without the line connected, the fuel injectors will always get max fuel pressure, and may set a CEL due to over-rich condition if the PCM cannot get the injector duty cycle low enough to compensate for higher pressure.

Here are some pictures of the vacuum line. I am going to try to find a hose that i can get to fit snug over the broken plastic line.post-133903-0-39085200-1415374774.jpg

The broken plastic hose line no longer has a fitting on the end that the rubbuer hose can fit on snug.

Sounds like a vacuum hose. No fuel should be going through a plain rubber hose. Start truckand listen/ feel for vacuum. I believe they still used the vacuum "storage tank" in the drivers fender. Common place for vacuum lines to break.

when the truck is running the vacuum hose seems to suck air in. The hose that comes out of the fuel pressure regulator comes over towards the driver side fender, on the end of the hose there is this little fitting/connector that has 3 connections for the vacuum lines and the one vac line goes behind the firewall and the other hose just sets off to the side and it seems to be sucking air, I forgot to add that this T connector also seems to be some kind of little air filter. right now i just have the hose pushed down over the little broken plastic line, its not a snug fit. will this cause me any trouble? can the little plastic line be replaced?

You can get a vacuum tee fitting from just about any auto parts store. They have universal tee's as well that have multiple size fittings on each leg if you don't know what size you need. If it were me, I would cut a short piece off of each hose and pick up a tee that fits those pieces. If you are trying to connect a hard plastic vacuum line to the tee, use a piece of rubber vacuum line between the hard line and the actual tee.

Can't believe I did not think of this sooner.
