2001 Blazer trans help

Hey guys I picked up a 2001 Blazer that I thought might be worth fixing. It had it's first trans replaced about 75k and now it's about 150k and the second trans is bad. It's been sitting for about 3 yrs and I'am trying to work all the bugs (critters actually) out of it.

 

When I first got it the trans would work for about 20 min then start slipping. I dropped the pan and filter cleaned the pan replaced the filter and put some fresh fluid in.

Since I change the filter and put fresh fluid in it has not been slipping, but I have not run it very long.

 

I put a gauge on the line pressure test port and I get about 60psi in Park and about 120psi in Rev.

 

Anyone know what I should get at the line pressure test port?

 

I am gonna take it for a ride and see if the trans holds, and I'll post back.

Dang dude, that trans pan looks like it went mudding without a net. That's one of the dirtiest I've ever seen. I'm not sure what the pressures are suppose to be either but I'd definitely run it around and consider changing the fluid again in short order to get anything else out that may be hiding up in that trans. Was that a flooded vehicle or something?

Not a flooded vehicle as far as I know. Yes the fluid looks like mud but feels like oil. I don't think it is contaminated with water but looks brown and dirty. There was some "stuff" in the pan (as you can see) and on the magnet.

 

At the very least I will do a bunch of dump and fills and change the filter about every 3rd time.

 

Just got back from the test drive, had a few other issues, sounds like a hub/bearing is bad and a shimmy at 50mph but the trans held up fine. There was a burning smell that I thought was a neighbor burning until I realized it was me LOL. Some left over critter nest burning, still needs more cleaning.

 

Anyone ever rebuilt one of these trans before?

keep driving it more if not slipping and fluild is still dirty do another service or get pump and suck the fluid out from dipstick with the pan empty replace the 4-5 quarts.use 1 qt of Lucas trans conditioner,you may be able to buy some time.No water has got in there.

Were you able to get that drain plug off? they can be a bitch,takes a really good socket to get a good hold of it, if its never been off.Drain and refill it there.Ive had stubborn drain plugs and have loosened them with big hammer and big chisel.

 

 

 

pressures rise when you brake stand it with pressure gauge on? at idle I think your numbers are in spec

I was able to get the drain plug off no problem.

 

 

I did scan it for codes, there was about 5 ABS codes but no power train codes. I am gonna scan it again just to be sure.

I am also looking for some ideas on how I should build this truck up a little. I was thinking about some 30" tires and maybe crank up on the T-bars, and new leaves in the back. How about the trim around the wheel wells, not sure I like it, maybe replace them with some small fender flares?
