Original Post from earlier in the week:

I just ordered mine for my 2014 Sierra CC (Non-Bose) and I can't WAIT for the UPS man to get here today!!! People can talk all they want about the price vs. aftermarket and bla bla bla. I ended up getting mine at Shopgmcparts.com for $847 on sale. Will try to post pics this weekend as well as give an updated eval for the new body style system.

For anyone with a 2014 and up truck, you know that you basically run your entire vehicle from the steering wheel. I wasn't interested in messing with that and the head unit to get a little better audio sound. I'm sure I will swap out the speakers for something a little more crisp further down the road but for now, I'm stoked about having a little more boom in my Hip Hop and Rock!!

So to update, I just had my system installed yesterday. Yes...I paid someone because I can't manage to pull apart interior panels without breaking all of the clips in the process so the $100 was worth the frustration to me (we can't all be master DIY mechanics!!)

I have nothing but love for this system so far! It is so well balanced that it is ridiculous! I'm in my mid 30's and am not looking to turn my truck into a pressurized chamber any more so if that is what you are looking, look elsewhere. What it DID do is make it louder, more crisp, and enough bass to enjoy some electronic music, hip hop, rap, and rock the way the Sweet Baby Jesus intended! I listen to a very wide variety of music (really...not the typical "I listen to everything" knee-jerk answer that most people say) and I put the system to the test with quite a few different genres of music in the next two hours of cruising after picking my truck up from the shop. Not one time did it splat, bottom out, crack...NOTHING! I think that is one of the upsides to buying an all-inclusive package that is designed to go together. It knows its own limits and, within reason, won't let you push past them. I have no regrets on spending the money on it. And when it comes to space and appearance, the pictures they show online for the product is exactly what you get. You can see the sub box under the back seat on the passenger side but the front of the truck looks exactly the same as it did prior to installation. That was one of the huge upsides for me was that I wanted to keep it looking as factory as possible.

I know it was a bit wordy but I hope this helps anyone who is sitting on the fence about whether or not to pull the trigger like I was. And come on critics, bring all your worst about how much it costs and how you can get a custom system for the same price and...whatever. I bought it on Tuesday night for $850 brand new from ShopGMCparts.com, had it on Thursday, and had it in the truck for another $100 before lunch on Saturday. Take it from a true music lover (NOT a car stereo critic,) this thing was worth every cent and I believe will not let you down!

Cheers

Hey man, any auiophile is a good one, no matter what the set up. A true bass-head will look at any system and enjoy it for what it's worth. People have reasons for what they did so kudos to you anyhow. If I was you I would have done the same thing. Sometimes, you just get tired of all the hassle and want things done quick without frustration involved to yourself. Glad it's working out for you at the moment! I think I read your other thread on the system set-up, did you buy new door speakers? I couldn't remember though usually doing that would best benefit from an amp. Unless your door speakers are true mids then I would suggest component speakers next so you can isolate your mids and highs with the cross-overs that come with. I think you will then be in perpetual music heaven without the chamber mess you were talking about lol.

I just installed the PowerStage system in my 2014 Sierra Crew Cab as well. I'd be happy to try and answer any questions anyone might have. I'll try to include a brief overview below of my experience:

Pros

  • does not void factory warranty
  • no cutting or permanent modifications except for a small 1/2" slit in the firewall
  • sounds great! the top dash speakers went from almost nonexistent to sounding fantastic. i'm surprised the "EQ" and amp work separated the bass/mids/highs like it did but sure as heck I can crank it all the way up and nothing distorts

Cons

  • some of the instructions miss a few tips a novice installer wouldn't pick up:
    • passing the power lines through the firewall, they failed to mention there was a second grommet on the inside which made it difficult to find the lines coming through on the inside
    • no instructions where to put the felt strip pad
    • no recommendations where to put the zip ties
  • sub power cord should have been 8" longer
  • instructions should have listed/recommended the tools and sizes necessary. you really need deep well sockets for a lot of the bolts

A couple comments:

  • I got this system for ~$900 shipped from shopgmcparts.com. In retrospect I'm not sure I'd have paid the full $1,200 for this system
  • If you expect a full on custom system sound you may be mildly disappointed ( I wasn't). There is only so much you can EQ/amp around OEM speakers.
  • I was quite surprised how loud the system is now - I can't take more than 3-4 songs at 75% before having to turn it back down

First Post!

I'm considering getting the kicker upgrade for my 2015 2500. Do you have adjustable pedals? GM accessories say that it's not compatible with them, but kicker say nothing about it. Thats really the only thing holding me back at the moment.

nuclear,

Did you use the felt strips at all? I wondered where they were intended to go? I installed the sub-only system (I already have the Bose in mine) and I had the same question.

So you just added the sub? Any details you can share on the install? I've got the Bose system and haven't seen much on adding the sub to it. I've got 2 kicker comp vr 10s laying around and have been toying with the idea of adding one. I haven't been able to justify spending the money on the system as I have plenty of great amps and subs collecting dust currently.

I added this to my Bose equipped Sierra and the install is really straight forward. The hardest part is fishing the power cable into the cabin through the firewall grommet. Everything else is simple. I can pm you the instructions.

Yeah I have the sub only option (it has a 200 watt amp mounted to it)... pretty straight forward... hardest part is getting through the firewall... here is a link to a previous thread where I posted pics.

Yes, I have adjustable pedals... that compatibility issue may be referring to the more expensive powerstage kit that has an additional amp for the door speakers, a.k.a the non-Bose option.

Hello all, question for you guys that bought your system from shopgmcparts. Is it the same exact system that Crutchfield sells as the VSS system? Does it have the same dsp and 4x50w amp and powered 10in sub? It's hard to tell on the website and their tech line wouldn't say that it was exactly the same.

Thanks in advance for any help!
