Towing package vs standard Suburban.

I'm looking at a 2014 Suburban, without the towing package. What exactly are the differences besides the integrated brake controller & the gear ratio & trans cooler?

I do tow a 6000lb race car a few times a year, & I think I can get buy without the towing package.

You have to really look at the fine details that are not always easy to spot. For example on the Traverse with the tow package you also get a bigger radiator, different tuning on the computer, and the trailer hitch that is integrated into the frame/ chassis. For the 1500 suburbans you might also be getting the bigger rear Diff(semi floating 9.5), but not 100% sure.

It depends on what gears are available. In my generation of truck the 10-bolt held several different ratios but the pumpkin size didn't change. However, there are different size pumpkins for the different strengths of the rear end. If the vehicle in question is 4wd then yes, the ratio in the front will match the ratio in the back otherwise it would bind up the drivetrain.
