2014 SILVERADO Fuel/oil leaks

BigPop

Question

Just bought a new '14 Z71 LTZ 4x4 5.3 Saturday. Fuel smell Sunday, back at the dealer Monday. Heard there have been perhaps issues with o rings on injectors leaking? Also noticed stain on garage floor near the rear axle. Looked underneath, and the ENTIRE underside of the bed has a coating of some type of oil. Beyond livid. Just got rid of a Ford F150 that stayed in the dealer's shop. A brand new $50K truck with less than 50 miles, now in the shop since Monday?? Not a happy camper. Also, dealer showed milage at 11, when in fact it was 140 and someone had the My Link with their iPhone name in it. Any ideas on the fuel smell or oil coating?

First thing to check is what type of fluid leaked out. From your description it sounds more like coolant that oil. Quick easy check is to touch the fluid with a finger, and taste it. If it is sweet tasting it is coolant. The rad cap will vent at about 15psi. Once that happens, the fluid coming out will boil immediately due to no more pressure.

Update. After some prodding, the dealer did provide a loaner. Picked up the truck yesterday. Pressure tested the fuel system, no leaks. I was concerned due to some other posts I have read with issues regarding injector o rings not seated properly. Suspicion by dealer is the leak in the rear end was a "gouge" around the seal where the drive shaft mates with the rear axle. Replaced the part and seal. Pressure sprayed the underside of the truck to remove the oil that was flung all under the truck and bed. "Gas" smell was explained as the petroleum based lubricant that was flung all under the truck. Still cannot explain where the 140 miles came from or who "*****" was who was loaded into my My Link system. Possible explanations were a "dealer trade." Apparently an estimate was made on the odometer statement at time of sale for 11 miles, truck actually had 140. I have to say, the dealer treated me OK with the issue. Wish it did not take five full days to fix it. But they said a big part of Monday in the shop was PDR on two dents that were down low perhaps during the build or in transit. GM did apologize to the mechanical issues. And said he hoped I would now be able to enjoy the truck as I should have when I took delivery. Seemed sincere. Just overly frustrated thinking I may have just bought a $50,0000 headache. So far, no more leaks. I will have to say, the "goodies" on this truck far exceeded the Ford. Took a couple of Xanax and came down from the sphincter sphere.

Just FYI ... if you live in the rust belt, and plan on owning the truck longer than 7 years or so, I'd have left the oil on the undercarriage.

Every winter I hose mine down WITH motor oil to protect it against road salt. It's messy ... but it WORKS.

Where are the GM Customer Service Reps? This is the kind of problem they should be jumping right on top of. Brand new truck. New Gm customer came over from Ford. And dissatisfied already. Not very good customer relations so far. I know its Friday but its not quitting time yet.

Sounds like the dealer gifted you somebody else's problem - that truck has been returned once before, looks like.

Hard to believe 7 years (almost 8 now) has gone by since I bought my truck new. First new vehicle purchase ever ......... and the LAST.
