Factory fog light removal

Recommended Posts

I have searched the web until my eyes bled. I can't find any resources to help me remove my factory fog light housings. The fog lamp housing itself is retained by the front bezel, which is retained by the bumper. It looks like it has to come out the rear, but an initial inspection looks like its a good day of removing the bumper to get to them. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to keep me from having to tear the entire front of the truck apart? I feel like that's a bit overkill, not to mention a headache should one get broken on the highway.

To quell the curious, I intend to cut away a part of the outer housing to make room for a drill through hide-a-way LED in each.

I'm eager to see that write up on the bumper removal. That's one thing that's sorely missing from he interwebs. The '14 differs from the '13 in that the lamp housing does not come apart at all from the front. Probably tues or weds I'm aiming to strip the front of the truck out. I will take pictures also, if I can even fit the hide-a-ways in once all that is over with. Now that I've said that, I'm wondering if it's worth it.. Hehe.

The front end of these 14+ are easy to take apart, I can have the grill and bumper off the truck in 15mins

Challenge accepted. I still feel like it would be easier for the first time with a guide to follow, spending an hour to take apart something that didn't need to come apart is almost inevitable. But eh, I'll take it on. Maybe I'll do a whole video series for the emergency light install. If the bumper comes off that easy I'll remount my grille lights to the back of the grille while it's off.

No way you can do it all in 15 mins. 20-30 maybe. I can get it done in about 25

Ha I like how you assume it can't be done. By the questions you ask in threads I could see where your line of thinking would make that assumption. If I half cared I'd make a video for ..maybe I'll think about it next time I have to take it apart

do i see a challenge????

i useto be able to get the front end off my cadillac in about 15 min by myself, after having to take it off soo many times i figured out a trick with bungee chords to balance it while i knocked out the last couple bolts so it wouldnt fall on my head.

To the original post...they mount the same way the earlier fogs shown in the video that mike posted, regardless if it's a Sierra or Chevy.

But I found that mine were extremely tight and didn't come out so easy. So, I reached up from behind a squeezed the O.D. Of the round sockets the light studs fit into, and pushed them out from behind.

Very true. I spent almost 2 hours trying to figure out how to remove the bumper and grille on my wife's 15 tahoe. The GM instructions were garbage. Now that I know how to do it, I could knock it out in 30 minutes. 15 with a friend...

Do not need to remove the bumper, at least not on a 2014 Silverado LTZ crew cab. Just get under the front end. Remove the bolts, maybe 7 or 8. I removed the bottom two screws on the front side of the wheel on the wheel liner and then the one in middle above it to allow room to remove the fog lamp housing. Take the whole thing out. Then you can work on it on the bench. I just replaced the passenger side as it was getting moisture in it. Replaced it with new housing. Bolt it all back in.

No reason to remove the bumperpost-154145-0-56689100-1474773358_thumb.jpgpost-154145-0-56390800-1474773359_thumb.jpgpost-154145-0-55469000-1474773360_thumb.jpgpost-154145-0-42040600-1474773361_thumb.jpg
