Problems with driver info center controls on steering wheel of 03 Subu

I just purchased a 2003 Suburban w/Z71 package. When you start the vehicle the DIC says driver 1 and then displays the odometer. I have the DIC control buttons on the steering wheel but pressing them does not do anything.

Has anyone else had this problem ?
