2004 Silverado Leveling Question.

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 Silverado RCSB. I just put a RC Leveling kit on it and new wheels and tires (285/70/17). I am taking the truck to get alighned tomorrow and had a question. The kit says its a 2" leveling but mine when up about 3 1/2". I put the blocks from the kit in the rear and I set the front to about 1/2 inch lower than than the rear. Is this ok to leave where its at when i go get it alighned? I attached a pic of how it is sitting right now. post-136032-0-93071300-1416845353_thumb.jpg

If your truck is a 4wd I'd check your CV angles. If you cranked it up 3 1/2 inches they're probably pretty steep and will give you problems. I'll bet your control arms are pretty close to the droop stops which will really limit your suspension travel too. You shouldn't raise the front more than 2 1/2 inches using any lift keys alone.

Is your truck a torsion front end? The 2 inch level came with blocks for the back??

You can level, raise, or lower a vehicle but keep in mind that "any" changes in static height will effect the design of everything included. Your truck is designed with a specific static height, with all angles of drive line and suspension taken into consideration to that.. When changed, all relationships within that will change. Some guys will find that the front end or cv joints will wear out a bit fast after making these changes. With the older parts being used to being a certain way, you changed everything in how they worked by raising your truck.

Now that said, everything may well end up fine at the end of the day too.. "Typically" a 2" alteration will be ok but keep in mind that there could be down the road maintenance requirements that you will have to address..

If I were to guess, judging by the pic you have there, it looks like someone has put a bigger block in the rear of your truck. So when you put the "leveling" kit in you had to crank it further than normal to gain level. What size is the block in the rear? I also put the leveling kit in my truck years ago and had to only go up about 2" or so before it was relatively level. I did the same, 1/2" lower in the front compared to the rear.

Ok thanks guys. The blocks were stock when i took them out and I added the larger 3" RC blocks that came in the kit. I just got the truck back from the alignment shop yesterday and just drove it to work. 30 miles on the express way doing about 75. Truck drove great! Very smooth and comfortable ride. (for a truck) So i guess only time will tell what is going to happen with rest for the susupension parts.

Thats my point. Shouldn't the "leveling" kit make the truck level without having any issues? I have it level (1/2" lower in front) I shouldn't have to keep lowering the front.

The "leveling kit" for the front is just new reindexed torsion keys. They just make it possible for you to crank your torsion bars farther. They definitely don't fix any angles.
