Turning off warning bells

RexS

Question

Can someone please tell me how to turn off the warning bells such as seatbelt, door open, etc? It is very annoying when checking, feeding cattle, opening and closing gates in the pasture and trying to hunt. I have got to get those bells turned off or buy a truck than I can turn them off on. I have a 2014 GMC Sierra

I just unplugged the connection under the seat - it's the only one with a wire headed up the seat belt. No more seat belt chime. Note that mine is an '07, so YMMV.

I did leave the passenger side one connected, because I wasn't sure if that affected the airbag or not - there's a seat sensor on that side that senses the weight of a passenger, and turns the airbag on. No idea if this has anything to do with the seat belt or not ... but I have the annoying ding when I have a passenger. It cycles twice - will ding as soon as you pull away, and then once again after 5 minutes or so - then it ceases. It's not like these foreign cars that ding perpetually until you give in and buckle up. Boy do I hate that!!

Now if we could come up with a way to stop that damn key-in chime. Every single time you open the door ... I want to put my fist through the dash!! At least it stops when you pull the key out a bit, then re-insert it. I would like it to STOP permanently though. I know where my key is at all times - I don't need an idiot chime to remind me ....

Haha. The navigation deck in my 2011 doesn't support the chime when it's powered off (so no key or lights on warning with the truck off). At least these aren't Fords. Their chime sounds like a jingle from a Price Is Right game.

Anyone find a solution to the horrible LOUD seat belt chimes ? Have 2017 2500

I would settle for a volume reduction. Have heard dealer can lower volume

I asked my dealer about the seat belt chime, I generally do not wear the belt when I'm plowing as I need the freedom to move and twist to see all around/behind me. I was told he "thinks" it would stop chiming after a few cycles. I have not tested it yet. I contacted GM and was pretty much told it is a safety thing and go pound sand.

I figure if I need to I will trick the truck into thinking the seat belt is plugged in.

If the above suggestion was towards me, the problem with that is I'd need to remove the dummy buckle to attach the real and vice-versa, over and over and over..... I always wear my belt on the road, just not while plowing, especially when I'm alone in a strip mall parking lot for 2 or 3 hours. I may leave it on if I'm doing a 10 min drive, but in those cases, the need to move inside the cab for visibility is even greater.

I'd rather determine if the buckle is grounding the line, or completing the circuit and set it up that way.

ETA:

It looks like the circuit is completed when the buckle is inserted into the receiver, so jumping the pins on the receiver side should make BCM think the belt is always latched.
