Filled my truck for 18 cents.

Here in the Mid-West we have grocery stores called "Hy-Vee". Very popular in Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska.

Hy-Vee offers the Fuel-Saver Card, which gives you X-number of cents per gallon on purchases of every day items....

For example:

5 cents per gallon - Cherrios

5 cents - Cheddar Cheese block

10 cents per gallon - Cookies

15 cents per gallon - Pizza

25 cents per gallon- With purchase of $25 meat

1 dollar per gallon - Mega Monday sale - $100.00 purchase

Just to name a few...

Here's my latest gas receipt.

9/10 of a cent per gallon.

Total cost - 18 cents for 20 gallons of gas.

Very easy to get $1 to $2 off in a couple weeks. My truck only needs fuel about every 2-3 weeks.

In my area, there is a string of gas stations operated by a chain grocery store Giant Eagle, they're called Get Go. They have a program called Fuel Perks! (yes, with an exclamation point). The way it works is that anytime purchases equal $50, a 20c/gal fuel discount is applied. They also sell gift cards which count for 10c/gal discount per $50 purchase. At times, the discount is doubled to 20c for gift cards.

So, there are people who make this a side business and I'm lucky enough to have two "suppliers" of Fuel Perks! who sell their Fuel Perks! at a discount; I've been paying $1.50/gal regardless of grade recently (my average fuel price for the last 4-5 years is under $2). I don't shop for groceries at Giant Eagle, but I buy gift cards rather often and several times a year, my fill-up (capped at 30 gallons at a time) is free. Today I bought $75 worth of Home Depot gift card and my Fuel Perks! discount currently stands at $5.21/gal. There are about two free fill-ups (60 gallons total) left at current fuel price.

In recent years it's been so painful to buy gas... It sure is nice to get it for free! (or at least a huge discount)

I would love to fill my truck for 18 cents too. :)

How much did you have to "invest" to get this discount?

I'm a total nerd when it comes to stuff like that.

I even calculated what a large coffee cost me when I take a thermos to work instead of buying one at McDonalds.

Or if it makes sense to get a COSTCO card for 50 bucks and safe 2 cents/liter at the pump. (I'd have to drive 15,600km just to break even...)

If you smoke or chew then a costco card makes sense. Buying gas there is just perk. If you are already there shopping then you dont have to go out of your way to fill up.

Nicely done!

My wife and I frequent the Hy-Vee and Price Chopper. I think Hy-Vee might actually be a better value for the gas card because of the bigger savings on specific items. I haven't paid the "listed" price for gas in KC for a few years now.

The only downside is there aren't as many Hy-Vee/Casey's gas stations as there are QT's....

Sidenote, shows how much I pay attention to everyone's info......didn't realize you live 30 minutes from me.

I probably spent $200 over a 3 week period. I check weekly ad, which always lists the gas reward items. (Wife helps with that and sends me text msg's :) ). The "One-Day-Only" sales are the best.

She went to Hy-Vee last night, bought eight $25 gift cards (for Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle, etc.) for our 4 sons and 4 daughter-in-laws. Got another $1 off per gallon for gas rewards.

It's all about looking for that little red sign.....

I bet you use to spend $200 a week when the kids lived at home! I know I do.... :tear:

I have 4 boys. (All married now!)

When they were all teenagers, we would buy 4 gallons of milk and it was gone in 5 days.

Yes. $200 a week was normal.

I buy gas at a station called stripes, E85 for about 2$ per gallon. With the car wash discount I pay a 1$ for a car wash. We also have a deal here called Car Pro cost 0 to join, free car washes life time engine warranty and discount on cars and trucks. wife pays 1.50 gallon at Sams using their card.
