2014 Windshield Cracked...

Recommended Posts

Already?? No rock mark or sound.. got in the truck Saturday morning and noticed a crack in the glass from the top of the roof down about 10". By Sunday morning it turned 90 degrees and spread another foot past the rear view mirror towards the passenger side. Just got the truck back from Safelite with a new windshield and down $250 (deductible). This can't be normal.. anyone else have this problem or is anyone at GM aware of this?

I would have taken it into the dealership prior to having a new wind-shied installed. I had this before with a 2001 Chevrolet S10 where the wind-shield cracked within a week of signing the papers.

GM took care of it, as it was a "defect", the traced the crack and did not find any chips, and called it a "stress crack"

Exactly, first order should have been to the dealer for them to make sure it was not a defective windshield. by having it changed out you have removed GM from any responsibility of the part.

And don't take that the wrong way, this is not the first time I have heard of a stock windshield breaking for no reason. Like any other part there will always be a chance of a defective part.

Not takin the wrong way at all.. I really didn't even think of the stealership. I dread taking it there for the scheduled maintenance, they can't even tighten the d*mn oil filter enough. And to be honest, it was cracking so fast and the Safelite shop is only 2 miles from where I work, I just dropped it off. I took pictures of the windshield crack from inside and out in case this turns into a normal routine.

I have the same problem. Woke up one morning and found a huge crack on my windshield. It looks exactly like the pic above. Wtf? It was half of that I then washed the truck to inspect it closer and next day it expanded to maybe 12 inches from the driver side A pillar. This has to be a defect. Going to the stealership on Monday first thing.

Its really ashame .. well at least we can step up into the bed thanks to the bumper but can't depend on the windshield.

Yeah, cause stepping on the windshield to get into the bed is much more convenient

Seems as these windshields seem pretty weak. I just had a chip repaired from an Odyssey cutting me off with a trailer flinging rocks at me, and they found 3 other chips I didn't notice, and once they told me about all the chips in the windshield, I now notice them and it is very annoying. I am always staying far away from people too as I travel on roads with higher speeds and state highways a lot. I stay at least 100 ft behind people too. My SC300 and Integra never had any problems with chipping and I never kept that much of a distance buffer.

BTW, I have only owned this truck since Nov 11, 2014
